To be fair and geographically desirable, I try to mix up the Dining Divas outings each month to cover all of Metro St. Louis.\u00a0 Divas drive from as far west as Wentzville, north as Godfrey, east as Belleville, and just a little south of 40.\u00a0 Being the coordinator of the outings, I try to make sure the restaurants are convenient for most everyone, not just me.\u00a0 With that being said, I try to avoid downtown St. Louis since I\u2019m the only regular Diva working downtown.\u00a0 But this month, fairness didn\u2019t fare so well.<\/p>\n

A very reliable source suggested the Divas try out a new restaurant in downtown called Lola, and let me just say, we\u2019ll be singing \u201cL-O-L-A Lola\u201d for awhile.\u00a0\u00a0 Previously, Crepes in the City occupied this location, but literally overnight, the furniture disappeared and the restaurant closed to the angst of many fans.\u00a0 But what a replacement Lola is.<\/p>\n

The restaurant sits on the corner of 14th<\/sup> Street and St. Charles Street., right across from the new dog park.\u00a0 If you\u2019re not accustomed to the canine critters and the homeless people who enjoy the park, you may initially be cautious.\u00a0 But fear not, Lola is a delight, the area is safe, and parking is easy.\u00a0 We found plenty of available street parking spots.<\/p>\n

Pick a night when you can kick back and stay.\u00a0 You\u2019ll be impressed with the drink menu.\u00a0 It covers the entire back wall of the bar.\u00a0 The \u201cUrban Ice Picks\u201d can be dangerous but delicious if you enjoy ice tea (and vodka).\u00a0 Unfortunately for us, it was a \u201cschool\u201d night, so we went the mellow route and drank wine.<\/p>\n

Most nights, they have live music, too.\u00a0 This night, a blues band entertained us as we watched couples doing the tango.<\/p>\n

The New Mommy Diva was happy to learn that this place is kid-friendly as she had the Little Tike Diva joining us this evening.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The host so considerately seated us at a table away from the music so as to not irritate any tiny ears.\u00a0 However, the Little Tike Diva excitedly joined the Grandma Diva on the dance floor for a few twirls.\u00a0 So, yes, Lola was kid-friendly that evening, but I wouldn\u2019t recommend bringing a toddler or any \u00a0child.\u00a0 Mom can\u2019t enjoy the Ice Picks quite as much.<\/p>\n

Many of the Divas went for the Carmen Crepe as their entr\u00e9e.\u00a0 It was beef tenderloin with Borsin cheese in a crepe topped with shredded romaine lettuce and crispy fried shallots drizzled with a balsamic reduction.\u00a0 Everyone loved it.\u00a0 The Picky Diva enjoyed the Josephine Sandwich with roasted chicken, smoked mozzarella, and a pesto sauce as well as a side of saut\u00e9ed spinach with garlic.\u00a0 Of course, she had them hold the tomatoes and switch up the Focaccia bread.\u00a0 The Colorful Diva happily ordered it \u201cas is\u201d.<\/p>\n

The one crepe entr\u00e9e may have been a blessing because several of the Divas had room for desserts.\u00a0 As I\u2019ve mentioned many times before, the Dining Divas love banana bread pudding, but the Dining Divas are usually disappointed in the banana bread pudding that we\u2019ve ordered in the past.\u00a0 Not this time.\u00a0 Lola\u2019s bread pudding is amazing.\u00a0 June Cleaver Diva wished she\u2019d ordered her own so she wouldn\u2019t have had to share.\u00a0 It was the best she\u2019d ever had.\u00a0 Grandma Diva went home and tried to duplicate the recipe.<\/p>\n

The Picky Diva had the chef make an off-the-menu strawberry crepe, and it was light and delicious.\u00a0 The Engaged Diva ordered the chocolate-banana crepe and was disappointed.\u00a0 They made the cardinal sin of baking with bananas, she said.\u00a0 The bananas weren\u2019t ripe, and they tasted \u201cgreen\u201d.<\/p>\n

Our Special Guest Diva didn\u2019t enjoy her meal of formula much, but we sure enjoyed her unladylike way of entertaining us by putting her feet on the table or in her mouth.\u00a0 We were just envious of how flexible she is.<\/p>\n

So now we\u2019re already talking about happy hour or dinner on the patio at Lola.\u00a0 With the season finally cooperating, we want to check it out and the wall of amazing drink options.\u00a0 And maybe another piece of the banana bread pudding which will have all of us singing we \u201clove, love, love Lola\u201d for quite some time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
