PROGRAM WILL THANK ACTIVE MILITARY, VETERANS <\/p>\n

Members of the U.S. Armed Forces currently serving and all veterans who lived or have lived in Florissant are eligible to be honored with a Certificate of Appreciation.<\/p>\n

Mayor Robert Lowery will issue individual Certificates of Appreciation to those who contact the mayor’s office.<\/p>\n

Certificates bears the following inscription:
\n “It is with deep pride and heartfelt gratitude that the Honorable Mayor Robert Lowery and the City Council of the City of Florissant, Missouri do hereby recognize and honor the service to our country and community of (name of person being honored and continuing,) for your service in the Armed Forces of the United States. We salute our local servicemen and women and thank all our veterans who have worked to safeguard freedom and democracy.”<\/p>\n

To receive a copy for a relative or friend in the military, or any veteran, may call the Mayor’s office at Florissant City Hall, 314-839-7601. <\/p>\n

You must have the name of the person to receive the certificate, their rank now or upon discharge, and the address where it should be mailed.<\/p>\n

PANCAKE BREAKFAST<\/p>\n

The annual Old Town Partners pancake breakfast will be held Sunday, Feb. 4, 8 a.m.-noon, on the lower level of the Wedding Chapel, 646 rue St. Francois, Florissant. Adult tickets are $6 – Children $3 includes pancakes, sausage, and beverage. For information 837-0033. Remember, it’s an old Florissant custom, eat pancakes on Ground Hog Day or suffer the consequences, “the seven year itch.”<\/p>\n

CLASS RELOCATIONS AT FONTBONNE<\/p>\n

Fontbonne University will relocate their class-room sites from the James J. Eagan Center, the Senior Dining Center, and JFK Community Center to the Paddock Hills Shopping Center on May 1. This change will allow Fontbonne to further expand their presence and commitment to Florissant and North County. Mayor Robert Lowery said that Fontbonne University will be adding two new undergraduate degree programs and one graduate degree program.<\/p>\n

FLORISSANT’S 150th CHARTER SIGNING ANNIVERSARY<\/p>\n

Historic Florissant, Inc. will host an open house on Sunday, Feb. 11, from 1-4 p.m., at the Gittemeier House, 1067 Dunn Road. The open house will commemorate the signing of the Charter of the City of St. Ferdinand de Florissant on Feb. 11, 1857. Copies of the original charter, photographs, artifacts and memorabilia will be on display. Refreshments will be provided.<\/p>\n

Any long-time residents of Florissant with photos or souvenirs from the 1957 Centennial are encouraged to bring them to the Sesquicentennial event to share their memories. For more information, call Historic Florissant at 314-921-7055.<\/p>\n

BARBERSHOP SINGERS SOUGHT<\/p>\n

The Florissant Valley Barbershop Singers are seeking new members for the chorus. If you like to sing, the group rehearses every Monday, from 7-10 p.m., at Bethel United Church of Christ, 14700 New Halls Ferry Road. Anyone with an interest in singing, and having a good time, is invited to visit during rehearsals. For more information, call Lou at 921-4043.<\/p>\n
