One Sunday morning, the Dining Divas braved the frigid temperatures and headed to South St. Louis for our monthly get together.\u00a0 We gathered at a neighborhood establishment called Three Monkeys for brunch and camaraderie for the first time this year, and some of us have already returned.<\/p>\n
Three Monkeys is located on Morganford across from Tower Grove Park and adjacent to Tin Can Tavern, another Diva favorite.\u00a0 It has a classical, ’50s look to it with the necessary upgrades for any modern bar (flat screens).<\/p>\n
The young and hip neighborhood folks intertwined with families and elders make this welcoming restaurant and bar warm and cozy.\u00a0 On weekends, they\u2019re open early for brunch, and fortunately, we had a reservation.\u00a0 The place was packed.<\/p>\n
This time around, we were lucky to have a couple visiting Divas join us.\u00a0 And this time around, the East-Side Divas outnumbered the Missouri Divas.\u00a0 It was exciting to catch up on the holiday adventures.\u00a0 Next year\u2019s holiday season, we have one Diva going on strike, one Diva actually putting a Christmas list together because she fears she may find a Stratolounger under her tree, and one Diva setting up outdoor decoration traps designed to catch Christmas light criminals.<\/p>\n
On a typical Dining Divas outing, we spend most of our time chatting and less time focusing on food.\u00a0 This was no exception; however for this Diva, I had to eat and run in order to get to work.\u00a0 So while the rest of the group casually bantered, I piled on the portions, not wanting to miss out on the food if I was going to have to miss out on the fun.<\/p>\n
We all enjoyed the omelet and pasta stations.\u00a0 Three Monkeys was happy to accommodate special requests and special sauces.\u00a0 Like most brunches, they had a wide variety of breakfast dishes and lunch items.\u00a0 Thankfully, all of these were more \u201cdown to earth\u201d fare versus fancy.\u00a0 We had plenty of options to choose from, and no one went home hungry.<\/p>\n
This brings up the problem with brunches or actually the problem with the Dining Divas kicking off the New Year with a brunch.\u00a0 Right at the time when most people make resolutions and especially to lose weight, we go to an all-you-can-eat buffet.\u00a0 Doesn\u2019t make much sense.\u00a0 In order to justify the cost of a brunch, you have to try everything.\u00a0 Again, no sense.\u00a0 And you end up feeling bad when the intention was to make yourself feel better.<\/p>\n
But at Three Monkeys, the price for brunch wasn\u2019t too bad.\u00a0 It was $15, and it included your choice of a Mimosa or Bloody Mary.\u00a0 Or you could just have coffee or a soda.\u00a0 In the brunch world, that\u2019s reasonable.<\/p>\n
What\u2019s not reasonable is working on a Sunday and having to leave the Dining Divas practically before your last bite has been swallowed, and more importantly, missing all the Divas banter that continued for quite some time after.\u00a0 Three Monkeys was a great place to kick off our monthly outings for the year.\u00a0 We liked being in the neighborhood.\u00a0 We\u2019ll leave the fancy stuff for another month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
