FLORISSANT APPLAUDS US NATIONAL HANDBALL<\/h1>\n

CENTER FOR ACQUIRING\u00a0 \"\"<\/a> MYERS HOUSE<\/h1>\n

The City of Florissant is pleased with the acquisition of the historic John B. Myers House at 180 Dunn Road by the U.S. National Handball Center (USNHC), a joint venture between the St. Louis Hinder Club and the United States Handball Association.<\/p>\n

The organization has committed to stabilizing and preserving the 19th century landmark and preparing it for adaptive reuse. The USNHC provides court facilities, instructional clinics, and community events, with plans for expanded programming and partnerships with schools and nonprofits. While they\u2019ve only recently become a member of the Florissant community this past year and continues to bring to<\/p>\n

the area; two State Handball Tournaments, 1 National Youth Tournament, and have held= multiple youth clinics free for anyone who wants to attend. They\u2019ve also recently partnered with the St Louis Gaelic Athletic Club (STLGAC) to begin using their facility for training and events. The St. Louis Hinder Club has been operating for over 50 years and is a great asset to North County.<\/p>\n

Mayor Tim Lowery praised the announcement, calling it a positive step for both<\/p>\n

preservation and community development.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to see the Myers House in the hands of an organization dedicated to protecting its history and giving it new life,\u201d said Mayor Lowery. \u201cThis investment<\/p>\n

strengthens the Dunn Road corridor and reflects exactly the type of thoughtful stewardship we value in Florissant.\u201d<\/p>\n

The USNHC plans to begin with structural stabilization and life-safety improvements, followed by a phased planning process aligned with their adjacent campus, where a national handball facility is under development.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re approaching this with stewardship first,\u201d said Brandon Muir of USNHC. \u201cOur<\/p>\n

priority is to respect the building\u2019s character and integrate its future use with the broader campus.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Myers House, dating to the late 1860s, has long served as a recognizable landmark along the I-270 corridor and was identified by the Florissant Landmarks and Historic District Board in 2023 as a property at risk. The City of Florissant welcomes the USNHC\u2019s commitment to securing its future.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis partnership helps preserve a vital piece of Florissant\u2019s history while contributing to the growth and momentum of the surrounding area,\u201d Mayor Lowery said.<\/p>\n
