Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc.\u2019s Alpha Zeta chapter named Amaris Hairston of Hazelwood Central Middle School as the first place middle school essayist in its annual Apple for the Teacher student essay contest.<\/p>\n
Hairston, a seventh grader, will attend the annual Apple for the Teacher awards luncheon on Nov. 21 to receive a certificate for her accomplishment. She will also receive a $100 savings bond and her essay will be entered into the sorority\u2019s national contest.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am extremely proud of Amaris and continue to be amazed by her long list of accomplishments. I believe this recognition by lota Phi Lambda will only reinforce her drive to achieve great things as a student and as a person,\u201d said Wade Steinhoff, assistant principal at Hazelwood Central Middle.<\/p>\n
\u201cAmaris is a leader and example for our students to follow,\u201d said Principal Robert Lawrence. \u201cHazelwood Central Middle is very proud of her and we hope that other students will follow the path that she is leading as she matriculates through middle school.\u201d<\/p>\n
Last month, the sorority selected five educators from the Hazelwood School District to receive Apple for the Teacher awards for their dedicated service to education<\/p>\n
