Saint Louis County Celebrates <\/strong><\/h1>\n

National Public Health Week<\/strong><\/h1>\n

In celebration of National Public Health Week, Saint Louis County plans to highlight the efforts its Department of Public Health (DPH) undertakes to protect and safeguard the community.<\/p>\n

As the only public health department in Missouri with clinical services, DPH is dedicated to protecting residents and fostering connections that enable a thriving community. Here are some highlights of the dedicated service accomplished by County employees in 2023:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Substance Use Reduction: An 11% decrease in overdose deaths, reflecting a<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    commitment to addressing substance use disorders by distributing over 5,000<\/p>\n

    Narcan rescue kits and partnering with libraries and the County Justice Center.<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Safe Eating: The department conducted over 10,000 restaurant inspections to<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      ensure a safe dining experience.<\/p>\n

        \n
      • Environmental Protection: The Household Hazardous Waste program collected<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        219,837 pounds of hazardous waste and recycled 172,180 pounds of latex paint and<\/p>\n

        the environmental division helped divert over 200 tons of electronic waste and<\/p>\n

        \u201cFrom tackling substance use disorders to ensuring a healthy environment, the<\/p>\n

        Department of Public Health is a cornerstone of a thriving Saint Louis County,\u201d said<\/p>\n

        County Executive Dr. Sam Page. \u201cNational Public Health Week is a great opportunity to celebrate the incredible impact our public health workers have on our community\u2019s well- being.\u201d<\/p>\n

        As part of the National Public Health Week activities, DPH will host and participate in the following events aimed at raising awareness about public health issues and celebrating the achievements of the Department of Public Health:<\/p>\n

        • April 3 from 2-5 p.m. Community Health Improvement Plan Kick-Off at Missouri Foundation for Health \u2013 4245 Vista Ave, St. Louis, MO 63110<\/li>\n
        • April 4 from 3:30-6 p.m. Promoting Safety and Fostering Health: Violence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
