{"id":2629,"date":"2009-11-05T13:04:24","date_gmt":"2009-11-05T19:04:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flovalleynews.com\/?p=2629"},"modified":"2009-11-05T13:04:24","modified_gmt":"2009-11-05T19:04:24","slug":"florissant-city-council-okays-reader-board-for-credit-union","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flovalleynews.com\/?p=2629","title":{"rendered":"Florissant City Council Okays Reader Board For Credit Union"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>By Carol Arnett<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After much discussion, the Florissant City Council approved a sign for the new American Eagle Credit Union at 1075 North Highway 67.at the council meeting last week.<\/p>\n<p>Councilman Andrew Podleski represents Ward 6, the ward in which the credit union is located. He said he would not vote for the sign, citing three reasons. First, he said, there were homeowners on the other side of Lindbergh, and the reader board on the sign could be annoying to them. Second, the credit union, he said, is on a short stretch of road between two lights and he didn\u2019t want another distraction. Third, Podleski said, \u201cthe Planning and Zoning Commission (P and Z) said no.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI support this very much,\u201d said Mayor Robert Lowery. He said that none of the neighbors had expressed concern, and he was not concerned about distracting drivers, since other reader board signs in the city have not increased traffic problems.<\/p>\n<p>Councilman Keith Schildroth said he understood the importance of the Planning and Zoning Commission. \u201cWhen we vote to overrule P and Z, I look into it carefully,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The council required a supermajority of seven to overrule Planning and Zoning. Podleski was the only \u2018no\u2019 vote, and the measure passed with seven votes.<\/p>\n<p>In other action, the council:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Passed a bill rezoning the former fire station at 1955 Washington from residential to commercial.
