{"id":26274,"date":"2023-11-01T20:29:54","date_gmt":"2023-11-01T20:29:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flovalleynews.com\/?p=26274"},"modified":"2023-11-01T20:29:54","modified_gmt":"2023-11-01T20:29:54","slug":"maneuver-allows-tax-relief-for-county-seniors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flovalleynews.com\/?p=26274","title":{"rendered":"Maneuver Allows Tax Relief For County Seniors"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>Senior Tax Relief Becomes a Realty<\/strong><\/h1>\n<h1><strong>for St. Louis County When Bill Not Signed<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>St. Louis County Executive Dr. Sam Page has chosen not to sign bill #176 on senior tax relief within the 15 day deadline set out in the county charter, thus allowing the bill to become law without his signature.<\/p>\n<p>This legislation opts the county into the state tax program created by SB190 providing those over the age of 67 a real estate tax freeze. According to the county\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>legislation, only seniors whose property is valued below $550,000 qualify for this program. Seniors will have to apply for the tax credit annually.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis relief for seniors has been a long time coming. I\u2019m glad to see St. Louis County join counties across the state in enacting this much needed legislation,\u201d said Councilman Mark Harder. \u201cThis should give seniors a valuable tool to plan their annual finances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The County Revenue Department will now begin developing the specifics of how this program will be implemented next year.
