\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0By Tom Anselm<\/strong><\/p>\n

Another successful Ascension Charity Classic presented by Emerson is in the books, the scorecards have been turned in and a new Champion has been crowned. On Arnold Palmers 93rd<\/sup> birthday, 56 year old Steve Flesch was a deadeye shooter with his long-handled putter, putting up\u00a0\u00a0 birdies on the final day, and playing his last 35 holes of the weekend bogey-free, to take the 3rd<\/sup> annual event with a tournament record low score of 62.<\/p>\n

That equates to 9 under for the day, and 19 under for the tournament and a three-stroke win over second-place Kevin Sutherland, who was one of the co-leaders going into the day, and who himself played some very consistent golf with just one bogey for the entire weekend.<\/p>\n

For his efforts, Flesch pocketed a cool $300,000, and is sure to share a good chunk of that with his caddie, son Griffin.<\/p>\n

The Classic also set a record for charitable donations, according to Nick Ragone, Executive Vice President and marketing chief for Ascension. The event raised over $1 million this year, only in it\u2019s third iteration, and one of these charity recipients is the Marygrove Childrens Home in Florissant.<\/p>\n

Next year\u2019s event is set for September 3-8, again to be held at the very lovely and green-friendly Norwood Hills Country Club in Jennings.<\/p>\n

I would be remiss in not mentioning that last years winner, Padraig Harrington, finished tied for 79th<\/sup> place in the Irish Open. Hopefully, he will be back in the pack for next year\u2019s competition here at Norwood Hills.<\/p>\n
