The Color Purple<\/em><\/strong> musical on Florissant stage<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Hawthorne Players\u2019 outstanding production of The Color Purple<\/em> begins this Friday at the Florissant Performing Arts Center, located at Parker Rd. and Waterford Dr., and seats are going fast.<\/p>\n

The Tony-award winning revival of the musical adaptation of Alice Walker\u2019s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel (and the popular 1985 Steven Spielberg film) spotlights Celie, a downtrodden young woman whose personal awakening over the course of 40 years forms the arc of this epic story. The show features a joyous score of jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music, and blues.<\/p>\n

Director Nancy Crouse is thrilled to be part of bringing the show to the Florissant stage. \u201cWhen I directed Hawthorne\u2019s The Wiz<\/em> in 2014,\u2019 she says, \u201cseveral of us on the creative team started talking about having the talent in our St. Louis community to do The Color Purple<\/em> here.\u201dHawthorne Players received a $5,000 grant from the Regional Arts Commission for this production.Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on July 28, August 4 and 5, with nearly sold out matinees at 2 p.m. on July 29 and April 2.<\/p>\n
