The Greater North County Chamber of Commerce, after meeting with two Florissant Council members, has discontinued the Florissant Business in Action plans opposing the Nov. 3rd<\/sup> Florissant license fee increase ballot proposal.<\/p>\n

The Greater North County Chamber of Commerce opposed the\u00a0 increase in fees and made a statement at the Sept. 28th<\/sup> Florissant Council meeting\u00a0 stating that \u201cbecause the increase in business license fees contained in it is so large that it will be unduly burdensome to businesses; and because it comes at a time of an historic economic downturn facing the entire country.”<\/p>\n

In addition, the Florissant Businesses in Action committee was ready with signs and flyers to help speak out against Proposition A and encourage residents to “Vote No.”<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Oct. 15, Tim Lee, Councilman Ward 1 and Keith Schildroth, Councilman Ward 5 met with board members to discuss this proposition.\u00a0 Councilman Lee, on behalf of the City Council\u00a0proposed\u00a0 that if Proposition A passes, the city will delay implementation until 2011,\u00a0with exception of the residential rental licensing.\u00a0 Lee also proposed having open discussion\u00a0on how best to phase in the implementation of\u00a0the increases over time, rather than all at once.<\/p>\n

Based on the council’s willingness to work with us, the board voted to discontinue the Florissant Businesses in Action’s current activities.<\/p>\n

Bonnie Barczykowski chamber board chairwoman, sent the following\u00a0 statement\u00a0 to board members this week:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe, as a Chamber, are the voice for our members.\u00a0 Our voice has been heard and the Florissant City Council has addressed the timing and implementation of these increases.<\/p>\n
