{"id":2532,"date":"2009-10-22T13:47:21","date_gmt":"2009-10-22T19:47:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flovalleynews.com\/?p=2532"},"modified":"2009-10-22T13:47:21","modified_gmt":"2009-10-22T19:47:21","slug":"msd-sets-meeting-on-new-clean-rivers-community-plan-nov-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flovalleynews.com\/?p=2532","title":{"rendered":"MSD Sets Meeting on New Clean Rivers Community Plan Nov. 5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>MSD Sets Meeting on New Clean Rivers\u00a0Community Plan\u00a0Nov. 5 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>North County residents are encouraged to attend a Public Meeting for MSD\u2019s Clean Rivers Healthy Communities Program, scheduled for Thursday, Nov.\u00a0 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.\u00a0 The event will be held at the Florissant Valley Community College Student Center, located at 3400 Pershall Road.<\/p>\n<p>A presentation by MSD speakers begins at 6 p.m.\u00a0 All are invited to come learn about MSD\u2019s efforts to improve water quality by reducing the amount of sewage that overflows into local rivers, creeks and streams during moderate to heavy rainstorms.\u00a0 Through its $1.9 billion dollar, multi-decade Clean Rivers Healthy Communities initiative, MSD is working to meet state and federal mandates in order to protect the public\u2019s health.<\/p>\n<p>The plan calls for new sewer construction and green infrastructure to help keep area waterways clean of sewage and other harmful pollutants.\u00a0 If approved by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, it will significantly decrease the number of sewer overflows into local water bodies.\u00a0 Fewer overflows will reduce the gallons of mixed waste water and storm water that currently discharge into the Mississippi River and its tributaries on a yearly basis.<\/p>\n<p>People who attend this Public Meeting will hear more of the plan\u2019s details, including its anticipated benefits and the long-term cost of the program.\u00a0 They will also learn about the role they can play in the decision-making process.\u00a0 In addition, attendees can interact with local organizations that specialize in controlling pollution and storm water and find out how they can get involved in water quality protection.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, call (314) 768-2742 or visit www.cleanriversstl.com.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MSD Sets Meeting on New Clean Rivers\u00a0Community Plan\u00a0Nov. 5 North County residents are encouraged to attend a Public Meeting for MSD\u2019s Clean Rivers Healthy Communities Program, scheduled for Thursday, Nov.\u00a0 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.\u00a0 The event will be held at the Florissant Valley Community College Student Center, located at 3400 Pershall Road.
