\nFinding a place that will take a reservation for a group of our size is always difficult. There are several restaurants that serve brunch that we\u2019ve wanted to try, but waiting for an hour or more to get a table is not appealing to any of us. A friend of mine recommended Sunny Street Caf\u00e9 on Manchester as she and a group of friends had recently visited. She said they were very accommodating, had a small room for their group, and best of all, allowed them to bring in alcohol as they did not have their liquor license. A couple of us checked out the menu and jumped on getting a reservation.
\nWhen asked if we\u2019d prefer a table up front or in the back room, I was happy to request the back room far away from the front door and the frigid temperatures. It was nice and cozy in there when we arrived. But that didn\u2019t last long. A complaint competition between the Hot Flashing Divas and the Bundled Up Divas began.
\n\u201cWhere\u2019s our waitress? It\u2019s cold in here.\u201d
\n\u201cI think the room temperature is comfortable.\u201d
\n\u201cNo, there is cold air blowing.\u201d
\n\u201cTurn up the heat.\u201d
\n\u201cHave a cocktail. That will warm you up.\u201d
\nThe bickering made me chuckle.
\nWe had a few bottle of champagnes to share, and they were tasty with orange juice or cranberry juice. Bailey\u2019s with coffee or in milk was a popular option too.<\/p>\n
\nThe Cultured Diva talked to us about her trip to Jordan and Egypt and how much she really enjoyed that adventure, even though traveling with a big group can be difficult sometimes. Thankfully, there were no COVID scares for them as she worried that she wouldn\u2019t make it back to the States for the holiday season. The Travelling Divas shared their winter plans for a Key West trip, and jealousy set in with talk of sunshine, beaches, and warmth, which was the opposite of what we were having this day.
\nThe group discussed our charitable intentions for 2022, and we agreed that helping teachers with their classroom needs would be our focus before the new school year. The Educator Diva\u2019s face brightened as she is well aware of all that teachers need above what the school provides. Plus, for someone who loves teaching so much and her students, you can tell that the current situation is really weighing on her. Although she seemed happy to return to the classroom after the holiday break, she\u2019s more in need of normalcy for her kids.
\nAnd that normalcy would be nice in restaurants too. These days, patience is always tested in restaurants. Hopefully, this trend changes. We were more than pleased that Sunny Street Caf\u00e9 had more than one waiter, but our server was running around covering lots of tables. Some in the group thought she could have done better, but the restaurant\u2019s crew was slim. I was just happy to get our food in a relatively average amount of time. And one crew member saw how much fun we were having, she asked to join us.
\nSunny Street Caf\u00e9 offers winter specials and a senior menu. That pleased the Elder Divas, even though they didn\u2019t want to be thought of as \u201csenior\u201d. The biggest complaint I heard was the food not being warm. That happens often with bigger groups. But the food was good and the portion sizes were nice.
\nBut what makes the breakfast spectacular was the group. It was so nice seeing the laughter coming from the entire table. The conversations were loud and simultaneous, and at times, our expressions gave us away.
\n\u201cDid she really just say that?\u201d was one expression that came from the Troublemaker Diva.
\n\u201cOh no. No, no, no, no!\u201d said the look on the Non-Confrontational Diva\u2019s face as she made the \u201ccutting the neck with the hand\u201d gesture to make the conversation stop. The Na\u00efve Diva was discussing a really touchy subject that wasn\u2019t to the liking of hers.
\nAnd then there was the Sassy Diva who was doing everything to contain her laughter at the conversation one Diva was having with her pet (who was not present)
\nIt\u2019s always entertaining, this group is. And we look forward to the year ahead with more laughter, hopefully better than average food, and a Baby Diva arrival. Adios 2021! 2022, we\u2019re really pulling for you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
