The Florissant City Council met remotely Monday night. Council President Keith Schildroth said that the council was returning to online meetings due to COVID. One public hearing was held and passed several bills.
\nThe public hearing concerned a request for a special use permit to Kingston 10 for a restaurant and bar at 1157-1159 N. Hwy 67. Dean Treston spoke for the restaurant. He would be the owner. He said he would like to open a Jamaican restaurant at the space. He said that his father was in the restaurant business and encouraged him to open a restaurant.
\nHe said he would like the have the restaurant up and running by Christmas or early 2022 and he may have entertainment and karaoke. The hours would be Wednesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. He would like to offer Sunday brunch.
\nThe council held the first reading on the bill that would approve the request and postponed a vote on a request for a liquor license to the next meeting.<\/p>\n
The council passed a bill authorizing the rezoning of property at 2925 N. Hwy 67 for the location of a car wash. This is near the intersection of Lindbergh and New Halls Ferry. Councilman Jeff Caputa wanted to continue until the council received the traffic study.
\nCity Engineer Tom Goldkamp spoke to the council and said that a traffic study was not recommended due to the anticipated traffic at the site, so the Missouri Department of Transportation will not conduct one.
\nCity Attorney John Hessel said that the city could request a traffic study from the business owner, but they can be expensive. He added that the council would have to clarify to the owner what type of a study was wanted.<\/p>\n
In other matters, the council:
\n\u2022 Passed a bill authorizing the mayor to enter into an exclusive license agreement extension with Gateway Disposal, LLC for solid waste collection services for the residents of the city.
\n\u2022 Passed a bill that replaces the current section of the city code regarding peddlers, solicitors and canvassers with a new version.
\n\u2022 Passed a bill that removes the handicapped parking spots in from St. Denis St. near Sacred Heart church. The handicapped spots in from of the church on Jefferson will remain. Councilman Patrick Mulcahy said that the church had requested this.
\nDid not pass a bill requiring a personnel accessway through new outside trash container screens. The vote was unanimous.
\n\u2022 Passed a bill that amends the city code to amend the number of members and add alternates to the Economic Development Corporation.
\nThe council also held first readings on several bills relating to the city budget for the fiscal year starting on Dec. 1, 2021. These include bills adopting the budget, establishing a pay schedule, and authorizing the mayor to enter into contracts with contract workers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
