Long time civic and business leader and member of the Hazelwood School Board Mark Behlmann has set up a sort of food bank in the front yard of his house on Lindsey Lane in Florissant. It started small as people would bring food items and those needing food could pick it up there. After a news story on Channel 2 broke, more and more food donations came by dropping off items.<\/p>\n
\u201cFood continues to come in from people walking and driving by and dropping off,\u201d said Behlmann. Donut Cupboard droped off several boxes of donuts and \u201cthey went very fast.\u201d
\n\u201cOne of those \u2018Little Library\u2019 shelves was added to the food bank. It\u2019s really a great idea and is doing great,\u201d said Behlmann. \u201c Children flock to that more so than the candy, well maybe equally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
When they are predicting rain he covers the trailer of food with a large blue tarp has also been extended to hold more food.
\n\u201cThe storm the other night ruined my 10 x 10 canopy which is okay; it was cheap to begin with. I now have a 10 x 20 canopy which seems to be working nicely,\u201d Behlmann said.<\/p>\n
