Florissant Seniors Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of New Year\u2019s Eve Parties at Civic Center. ~ Pat Lindsey photos<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Each year on New Year\u2019s Eve, Florissant\u2019s finest seniors and their friends gather in the gymnasium at the James J. Eagan Center for the much-anticipated Senior Citizen New Year\u2019s Eve Celebration, where the doors open at 10 a.m., the ball drops at Noon versus midnight, and the dance floor is full until 2 p.m.<\/p>\n

Mayor Tim Lowery welcomed the revelers and praised the City\u2019s outstanding volunteers for their dedication and hard work every year to hold this popular event. ~ Nichole Fetters photos<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

More than 300 guests attend each year; the mayor, council representatives, neighbors who have lived in Florissant their entire lives or just moved here more recently; even Eddie, everyone\u2019s favorite K9! Others from surrounding areas are known to purchase tickets each year so as not to miss the party, which is well known and was even once featured on Jay Leno\u2019s \u201cThe Tonight Show.\u201d<\/p>\n

The tables were filled with many ladies who came to party at the New Year\u2019s Eve dance. Soft drinks were available, and beer and wine were also served to anyone of drinking age. There were many couples who attended as well. ~ Pat Lindsey photos<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The 2020 New Year is the event\u2019s 20th Anniversary, and it is popular for a reason. The Senior Citizen New Year\u2019s Eve Celebration is a well-planned, well-executed, and well- attended party for many who have made it an annual tradition for years.<\/p>\n

Ballroom dancing was a hit with many of the seniors, but Swing and Line Dancing were popular as well. ~ Bob Lindsey photos<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u201cA Toast to Our Town\u201d was the chosen theme this go around, and the gymnasium was alit with brightly done decorations of gold and white. The Saint Charles Big Band, which has serenaded the party goers for several years, practically glittered on stage and did a fine job of providing a lively and lovely atmosphere enjoyed by all. The proof was the number of dancers on the floor swinging their partners or moving in steps with one another in popular line dances.<\/p>\n

Delicious appetizers, lunch, and dessert were provided by Tornatore\u2019s Catering.<\/p>\n

Several people walked away with wonderful raffled items and attendance prizes, including the three biggest winners: Margie Recker, who won a television; Kay Theiss, who won a beautiful clock; and Nan Portnoy, who won a Tornatore\u2019s gift certificate for an 8-person dinner. Several local businesses donate prizes and the calling of the winners is a highlight of the event.<\/p>\n

\nThe celebration is a success each year due to the group effort of many in the city of Florissant. The Florissant Senior Commission, the City of Florissant council representatives, the City of Florissant Parks Department, and the City of Florissant Health Department are among the wonderful people who gather their time and their talents each year to ensure a grand ring into the New Year for the seniors of Florissant.<\/p>\n
