Football Season With 7-1 Record<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After years of winning\nconference and state Football titles at Hazelwood Central and Hazelwood East\nHigh Schools, it is now time for Hazelwood West to stand on top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After opening the\nseason with a 3-0 loss to 1-7 Oakville, called in the first half by\nthunderstorms and a tornado warning Aug. 30, Hazelwood West proceeds to win\nwhat is a school record seven consecutive games. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

   The Wildcats have four Suburban Conference\nXII North Division wins, assuring West of a share of the conference title for\nthe first time since 2008 when the \u2018Cats shared the Suburban North Conference\ntitle with Class Six State Champion Hazelwood Central. That same year Hazelwood\nEast won the Class Five State title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

   Saturday, Oct. 26, Hazelwood West hosts a 1\np.m. Suburban XII North game against Class Four, District Two Hazelwood East\n(2-2 Suburban XII North, 3-5 overall), and a Wildcat win not only clinches\ntheir first conference title in school history but also becomes the first, team\nother than Hazelwood Central to win the Suburban XII North. In addition,\nHazelwood West will be playing their first on-campus home game in Class Six,\nDistrict One Nov. 2 against Hazelwood Central, St. Louis University High,\nFrancis Howell Central or Pattonville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Hazelwood West clinched a share of the\nSuburban XII North Oct. 19 with a win over visiting McCluer North, snapping the\nStars\u2019 six-game winning streak. Senior Darius Cooper scored 28 of the Wildcats\u2019\n31 points by throwing for three touch-down passes and rushing for another. The\nWildcats scored 14 unanswered fourth-quarter points to seal the win Cooper also\nrushed for two second-half touchdowns Oct. 11 in Cedar Hill as the Wildcats\novercame a 10-0 halftime deficit to defeat Northwest 14-10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    LUTHERAN NORTH<\/strong> visits Class Five,\nDistrict Three Chaminade (6-2) Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. Lutheran North won\ntheir third straight Metro League title Oct. 10 with a 49-6 win at Class Three,\nDistrict Three John Burroughs called at halftime by rain darkness and a late\nstart (no lights at Burroughs). Sophomore Brian Brown threw three touchdown\npasses and ran for another while sophomore Ali Wills ran for two more. On Oct.\n18, a home win over Class Four, District One Farmington (38-10), senior Jalen\nHead ran for two touchdowns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Prior to the game against Farmington,\nCardinal Ritter, which is in the same class and district as Lutheran North\n(Class Two. District Two), forfeited their seven wins, including week two\nagainst Lutheran North, forfeited their last two games and cancelled their\nseason in dropping from the top seed. \nCardinal Ritter  used an ineligible\nplayer in week one prompting the dismissal of the coach and all his assistants\nSo Lutheran North (now 7-0) will the top seed, have a first-round bye and will\nplay the Nov.8 district semifinal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

   McCLUER NORT<\/strong>H (3-1, 6-2) hosts\nHazelwood Central (1-3, 3-5) Saturday at 12 noon seeking a possible win to\nsecure a home game in Class Five, District Three Semifinal Nov. 9 against\nWebster Groves, Parkway West or Ritenour. Senior Angelo Butts rushed for two\ntouchdowns at Hazelwood West, and scored two more and the Stars\u2019 36-0 shutout\nOct. 11 at Oakville while senior Travon Springfield rushed for three touchdowns\nat Oakville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    McCLUER<\/strong> (2-2, 6-2) hosts\nRiverview Gardens (0-4, 0-8) Saturday and McCluer, currently the top seed in\nClass Four, District Two, will seal it with a win and could host Riverview,\nBishop DuBourg or Soldan International Studies Nov. 2. The Comets won their\nfirst home game Oct. 12 in defeating Seckman 26-7 as senior Jaylen Gardner\nthrew for 219 yards and three touchdowns. The Comets remain unbeaten or the\nroad winning 34-24 Oct. 19 at Hazelwood East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    TRINITY CATHOLIC<\/strong> ran their win streak to five Oct. 12 with a 36-6 win over Clyde\nC. Miller Career Academy at the former Southwest High, now used by St. Louis\nCentral Visual and Performing Arts and Cleveland Naval Junior ROTC. That win\nstreak ended there as the 5-3 Titans lost 21-16 at home Oct. 18 to Class Six,\nDistrict One St. University High (4-4). Trinity is off this week and will host\na first round Class Three, District Three game Nov. 1 against Normandy or\nMiller Career.   HAZELWOOD CENTRAL<\/strong> snapped a four game losing streak with home wins over 1-7 Ritenour,\n47-0 and Riverview Gardens 55-14.
