The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has selected\nMillstone Weber as the Design-Build contractor for the Interstate 270 North\nProject. The $278 million dollar project runs an eight-mile stretch along I-270\nfrom I-70 on the west to west of Riverview Drive. The decision was made last\nweek at MoDOT\u2019s monthly meeting held  on\nthe St. Louis Community College campus in Ferguson,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

   \u201cSeeing this project come\nto fruition is great progress for the community, the region and the entire\nstate of Missouri,\u201d said MoDOT Director Patrick McKenna. \u201cThe I-270 North\nProject is MoDOT\u2019s largest single project in the last decade. It will replace\naging infrastructure, enhance safety and resiliency of the system and improve\nmobility for freight and passengers, all while creating an economic boost for\nnearby communities. MoDOT\u2019s design-build model to scale the scope of work to\nmatch existing resources has worked well for us, and I believe it will with\nthis project, too. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The I-270 North\nDesign-Build Project seeks to improve reliability within the I-270 corridor,\nlink communities, and enhance traffic operations so that the public has a\ndurable and maintainable\ntransportation network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Challenges within the\ncorridor include safety.  Reports show\nthat both directions of I-270 have higher than average rates of severe crashes.\nThey also indicate higher-than-average crash rates, with eastbound I-270 showing\nan average crash rate 30% higher than the statewide average for interstates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

   Other challenges include\nthe corridor\u2019s position as one of the heaviest traveled interstates in\nMissouri, 140,000 vehicles, of which 18% are heavy trucks, travel it daily. In\naddition, the corridor offers limited pedestrian facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     \u201cThis project has been\nin the works for a long time and we are excited to finally move forward to\naddress some of the challenges within the I-270 corridor,\u201d said Project\nDirector, Justin Wolf. \u201cWhile we know that a project of this scope will require\npatience on the part of those who travel throughout the corridor, we also know\nthat the end product will be worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

   MoDOT\u2019s project team will\nmeet with Millstone Weber over the next several months to fine-tune project\nelements and construction approach. Improvements planned for the project\ninclude: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  \u2022 Reconstruct interchanges\nat U.S. Route 67 (Lindbergh), Hanley\/Graham Roads, New Florissant Road,\nWashington St.\/Elizabeth Ave., West Florissant Ave, News Halls Ferry Road, Old\nHalls Ferry Road and Route 367.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  \u2022 Additional lane of\npavement on I-270 in both directions from U.S. Route 67 (Lindbergh) to Route\n367 (see photo below of I-270 at Route 367)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

   \u2022 Improve accessibility\nfor bicycles and pedestrians with shared use paths from Lindbergh to Breezy\nPoint Lane along Dunn Road, and from Hanley\/Graham Roads to Old Halls Ferry\nRoad along Pershall Road, and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

   \u2022 Improve safety with an\nupdated outer road system that includes outer road conversions and removal of\ncross over slip ramps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Work on the project is\nscheduled to begin in spring 2020. Project goals are:   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  \u2022 Deliver the project by\nDec. 1, 2023 within the program budget of $278 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  \u2022 Maximize reliability and\nsafety while linking communities for all users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     \u2022  Provide a durable and maintainable\ntransportation network making Interstate 270 the conduit for a prosperous\nregion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

     \u2022 Grow and utilize a\ndiverse workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  \u2022 Minimize and mitigate\nimpacts to customers through innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
