THE ANNUAL FLORISSANT VETERANS DAY PARADE<\/strong> continues to draw bigger crowds every year. This photo was shot along an old parade route on rue St. Francois a couple of years ago. The route now comes from Bangert Park (Florissant Rd.) to the VFW Post 4105 on St. Francois Street. <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Veterans Day Parade In\nFlorissant Nov. 10<\/strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Starts at Bangert Park,\nEnds at VFW Post<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 2019 Veterans parade will be held on Sunday, Nov. 10 beginning at 1 p.m. Mayor Tim Lowery announced .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parade participants\nwill assemble and start the parade at Bangert Park and precede North on\nFlorissant Road and then turn left on St. Francois and end the parade at the\nVFW where the ceremony will take place to honor the 2019 Veteran of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tony Colombo from FM\nNews Talk 97.1 will be the Emcee. The guest speaker will be Carl A. Hargus.\nCarl served in the United States Army retiring from active duty in 1980. His\nlast assignment was as a Sergeant Major and career counselor supervisor for HQ\nIII Corps and Fort Hood, Texas. Sergeant Major Hargus was awarded numerous\ndecorations including the Purple Heart, The Bronze Star, Meritorious Service\nMedal, Combat Infantryman\u2019s Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with 12 campaign stars\nand many more.  After retiring from the\nmilitary, Carl served as a veterans service officer with the Missouri Veterans\nCommission, retiring as director of the Service Officer program in July 2002.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LEWIS G. BOUWMAN\nIS 2019 VETERAN OF THE YEAR<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lewis G. Bouwman II\nhas been named the 2019 Veteran of Year. He entered active duty in January of\n1994 and was stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky.  He was assigned to the 101st Airborne\nDivision as an Infantryman with the 327th Infantry Regiment. He completed Air\nAssault School and Jungle Warfare School at Fort Sherman in Panama where he\nearned an Expert Infantry Badge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1997 he became a\nreserve with the National Guard as a military police officer and a drill\ninstructor with the 95th Division. In December of 1999, he was hired by the St.\nLouis County Police Department where he is currently an investigator with the\nSt. Louis County Special Response Unit and is also a member of the Crisis\nNegotiation Team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was deployed in\n2007 to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. He was a squad leader and\nconvoy commander with over 200 combat missions. He has received numerous awards\nincluding Army Commendation Medals and the Combat Action Badge. He retired from\nmilitary service in 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event was the\nsuggestion of Mr. Norman Sirna, a member of the Veterans’ Commission. Mayor\nLowery and the Florissant City Council invite everyone to bring their children\nand grandchildren to this event and salute the men and women who have and\ncontinue to serve this great country.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n
