One grant will go toward the implementation of the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) Program, and one will go toward the expansion of the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\" class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><span style=\"color:#0693e3\" class=\"tadv-color\">PDMP Expansion <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A grant of $1.9\nmillion dollars has been awarded to St. Louis County to fund enhancements to\nand expansion of the PDMP, which monitors how controlled substances are\nprescribed and dispensed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>County Executive Dr.\nSam Page led the effort to create the PDMP, which was officially established in\n2017. The program now covers 85% of the Missouri population. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled with\nhow much the PDMP has grown since it was established more than two years ago,\nand this new grant funding will help it expand even further,\u201d County Executive\nPage said. \u201cThe grant funding also will help the system better identify\nhigh-risk patients, participate in early intervention, and direct patients to\nsafe and effective treatments.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\" class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><span style=\"color:#0693e3\" class=\"tadv-color\">LEAD Program <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A $1.2-million-dollar grant has been awarded to St. Louis County for the implementation of the LEAD Program, which provides a legal pathway to redirect individuals with low-level, non-violent, drug-related offenses from the criminal justice system and into treatment services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018 at the Buzz\nWestfall Justice Center, 37% of the incarcerated population had a substance use\ndisorder when entering the jail. Upon release, LEAD participants are 58% less\nlikely to be arrested again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs we continue to\npush forward and do everything possible to address this substance use crisis,\nwe cannot forget those who are often the most vulnerable,\u201d St. Louis County DPH\nActing Co-Director Spring Schmidt said. \u201cTreatment in community settings is\nmore effective than corrections for those with a substance use disorder.\u201d \n\nThe grant was awarded to St. Louis County DPH in conjunction with the\nSt. Louis County Department of Justice Services, the St. Louis County Police\nDepartment, and the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney\u2019s Office.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PDMP, Implement Diversion Program The St. Louis County Department of Public Health (DPH) has received two three-year grants from the U.S. Department of Justice to fight opioids and prescription drug abuse.
