  When we pick a restaurant for the Dining\nDivas outing, typically we choose a place that is somewhat new, but definitely\nnew to most of us. This month\u2019s restaurant choice was neither new nor new to\nseveral of us, but that\u2019s okay because Big Sky Caf\u00e9 in Webster Groves is worth\na return visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    As usual, parking is always an issue in\nWebster, and this night was no exception. But Big Sky Caf\u00e9 is worthy of a walk\nor taking the risk of parking in other lots \u201creserved\u201d for guests of\nneighboring restaurants. A very busy night it was, but Big Sky Caf\u00e9 takes\nreservations and happily greeted our larger group without hesitation. And we\nfelt welcomed immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

   Big Sky has an amazing patio, but we\u2019ll be\nsaving that for a warmer evening. The first thing I noticed once seated was a\nbeautiful, mosaic wall, with rolling hills and what looked to be cows and pigs\nin a sky of many shades of blue. It was interesting. As were the employees and\nour waiter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    He was very knowledgeable and frank, which\nis probably a good thing when dealing with our group. The menu and what goes\ninto making it up was interesting too. Almost 100% of their menu comes from\nlocal farms and is naturally raised. They have close relationships with\npartners who provide seasonal produce as well as sustainable seafood. They\nbelieve in taking care of the surrounding communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Returning Diva was so glad we picked\nBig Sky because it had been quite a long time since she\u2019d been there, and she\nwas reminded how much she loved the food and the atmosphere. Big Sky serves\nsmall plates and larger plates to share. We did both. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

   The NOLA BBQ Shrimp with gouda polenta was\nan appetizer but it was big enough for a meal. And it was delicious. Those of\nus who could tolerate Sweet and Sour Brussel Sprouts really enjoyed them. The\nPicky Diva commented that Brussel sprouts smell like stinky feet. No stinky\nfeet smells this night! The Baked Kale Chips tasted a lot like flash fried\nspinach, and we love flash fried spinach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    And never one for passing up Mac and\nCheese, the Play-It-Safe Diva and the table enjoyed the Cheddar Cheese Macaroni\nwith panko and bacon. This night was Burger and Craft Beer night. The\nNon-Drinking Diva really enjoyed her burger without the brew, but the\nNon-Craft-Drinking Diva really enjoyed her beer choice with her burger. The\nBrined Buttonwood Farm Chicken Breast with mushrooms and sprouts and mashed\npotatoes was a brave choice for one Diva. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

   She rarely orders chicken and was so glad\nshe did. It was juicy, full of mushrooms, and had a great flavor.    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

   Another delicious choice was the Rosemary\nand Red Wine Braised Pot Roast. It was even better the next day as leftovers.\nDid we save room for desserts? No. But did we still order them? Of course! The\nChocolate Cherry Pie was an unexpected delight. The crust just melted in your\nmouth and was full of cherries and chocolate. The Chocolate-Loving Diva chose\nthe Blueberry Chocolate Crisp with homemade salted caramel ice cream. She\nseriously was considering driving back to Big Sky Caf\u00e9 from Grafton, IL a\ncouple days later just to get this dessert to-go. That\u2019s how impressed she was\nwith it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Aside from the great food, we enjoyed our\nconversations about weekend getaways, upcoming holidays, and ghosts. The\nTraveling Diva offered up her beautiful condo on the river over Thanksgiving to\na couple Divas going through some hard times. The Adventurous Divas were\nheading to Toronto for the weekend to see the Hockey Hall of Fame. And the\nApologetic Diva shared an intriguing story of an experience with a medium,\nwhich had us all convinced she could \u201csee people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Besides being impressed with Big Sky\u2019s\nquality food, we were also impressed with their mission to provide clean water\nto developing countries. Through their charity change program, they donate to\ncharity:water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

   As you leave the restaurant, there is a\nlarge wine bottle by the front door for you to drop off your spare change. They\nmatch 20% of whatever is given. That got us talking about our charitable effort\nthis holiday season, and we were all very excited about our plans. Each month,\nwe collect our \u201cspare change\u201d for a charitable donation during the holidays.\nMore on that next month! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    As we all walked out of Big Sky, I thought\nof the \u201cbig sky\u201d out west in Wyoming and Montana. It\u2019s beautiful. And I\nwondered about what this Big Sky is doing to support the communities in which\nwe live, as well as countries nowhere near to us. That is beautiful too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

   I couldn\u2019t have been happier to have tried\nthis not-new-to-many-of-us restaurant. As I said, it\u2019s worth a return visit.\nAnd I\u2019ll be sure to bring along my spare change.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
