Museum Executive Committee voted unanimously.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

\"pow<\/a><\/p>\n

Mayor Tim Lowery has announced that the Jefferson Barracks POW-MIA Museum Executive Committee voted unanimously at their recent meeting to name Florissant the 18th POW-MIA City in the State of Missouri.<\/p>\n

Members from the Jefferson Barracks POW-MIA Museum Executive Committee presented\u00a0\u00a0 the City of Florissant with a proclamation at the Aug. 26 City Council meeting.<\/p>\n

The mission of this executive committee is \u201creverently honor all who served our country in any branch of the United States military, who were captured by enemies of the United States, or who are missing in action, from any year and from any conflict.\u201d As part of its mission the executive committee has established the \u201cPOW-MIA City\u201d Program in an effort to raise POW-MIA awareness across the nation. It is an open invitation to towns, municipalities and cities across the United States to seek recognition as a \u201cPOW-MIA City\u201d to help insure their national promise \u201cNo one left behind. No one forgotten.\u201d is kept.<\/p>\n

Mayor Lowery said in a statement, \u201cOur dear Veterans are the cornerstone of our great city and we will never stop paying our respect and honoring the men and woman that served our country with pride, commitment and dedication. The City of Florissant traditionally has, and will always honor its veterans. We have a strong veteran community and Florissant acknowledges the great sacrifices they have made for all the freedoms we have today. Our city is proud to partner with the St Louis County Veterans Coalition to hold one of the biggest Veterans Day parades in the county that includes a tribute to our Veteran of the Year.<\/p>\n

Each year Florissant hosts or sponsors numerous veteran events with one of \u201cour many organizations such as the VFW, American Legion, Elks, and Eagles. In May VFW Post 4105 hosts an event called Proud to be an American where \u201cwe have dedicated two Walk Through History plaques.\u201d Vietnam Veteran First Lt. Michael Blassie was originally buried in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier until his remains were identified in 1998 and Vietnam Veteran Sgt. 1st Class Charles Prevedel whose remains were identified in 2003 and again in 2011.<\/p>\n

Mayor Lowery thanked the VFW Post 4105 Commander Ron Scanlon who worked closely with the mayor\u2019s office and was very instrumental in getting all the necessary information together and making the presentation to the executive committee for their consideration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
