LOUIS RECAST REQUESTS PROPOSALS FOR <\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong>COMMUNITY PROJECTS DUE SEPT. 13<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The St. Louis County Department of Public Health (DPH) has issued four requests for proposals (RFPs) on behalf of St. Louis ReCAST (Resiliency in Communities After Stress and Trauma), a program working to improve local communities by funding micro-grants in the St. Louis Promise Zone.<\/p>\n<p>The Promise Zone is a federally designated area in North St. Louis City and County that encompasses 11 wards in North St. Louis City and 28 municipalities in North St. Louis County.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>DPH is accepting bids from organizations interested in projects that promote ReCAST\u2019s main priorities: youth engagement, mental health, peer support and violence prevention.<\/p>\n<p>Up to $75,000 in federal grant money will be awarded in each of those categories using participatory budgeting \u2013 a democratic process in which Promise Zone community members vote on how to spend the ReCAST funds.<\/p>\n<p>Proposals must be submitted by Friday, Sept. 13. This year the neighborhood partnership involves two communities: one in Calhoun County, IL and the second in North St. Louis County.<\/p>\n<p>The performances will begin at 7 p.m. outside the 24:1 Coffee House\/Cafe at the intersection of Page and Ferguson. After Act 1, the cast and audience will journey together by bus and on the Golden Eagle Ferry from North St. Louis County, across the river to Calhoun County. The second act of the production will take place on the riverbank with the Mississippi River as the backdrop. The entire experience including travel will take approximately three hours.<\/p>\n<p>Shakespeare in the Streets is underwritten by the PNC Foundation through PNC Arts Alive, a multi-year initiative dedicated to supporting visual and performing arts with generous support from the Whitaker Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts: Creativity Connects, the Strive Fund, and Moneta Group. This will be a two- day event to be held on Saturday, Sept.14-15 at the Atonement Lutheran Church located at 1285 N. New Florissant Road.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Sept. 14 at noon, the American Legion Post 444 will have their honor guard in attendance and will be doing a 21-Gun salute. A proclamation will be presented to the family at the event to honor PFC Chris White and to thank the White family for their dedication and commitment with Camp Hope and for the positive impact they have made on the lives of the Veterans that have visited Camp Hope and for all that they have done for the Veteran community.<\/p>\n<p>In conjunction with Camp Hope Day in Florissant on Sept. 14, proceeds from the Atonement Men\u2019s Club BBQ on Sept. 14 and 15 will be donated to Camp Hope. On June 20, 2006, U.S. Marine PFC Chris White, a machine gunner and four other Marines were riding in the last Humvee in a convoy traveling through Al-Anbar Province in Iraq when an IED exploded under their vehicle. PFC Chris White and three other Marines were killed. The death of PFC Chris White devastated his family. His parents Mike and Galia White wanted to keep his spirit alive, they founded the non-profit organization called Camp Hope. The mission of Camp Hope is to honor the fallen by helping the wounded. Camp Hope offers all expenses paid adventures and comradery for the service men and women that gave selflessly for our freedoms.<\/p>\n<p>Camp Hope is situated in rural Farmington, Missouri, approximately 80 miles south of St. Louis.
