This year\u2019s display again includes a Northwinds Band Patriotic Concert at the James J. Eagan Center Grounds.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mayor Tim Lowery and police chief Fagan want to remind the public that the sale, possession, and use of Fireworks are prohibited by law in section 215.020 of Florissant\u2019s City Code which was enacted by the City Council several decades ago. \u201cThis Administration has placed a renewed priority on enforcement of this ordinance in an effort to prevent death, injury, fires and disturbance of the peace. Violators will be subject to a fine of up to $1000,\u201d Mayor Lowery said.<\/p>\n<p>According to city the police department the City of Florissant and the nation has experienced a noticeable increase in the amount and size of the pyrotechnics that individuals are using near the 4th of July and New Year\u2019s Eve which has resulted in complaints of peace disturbance.<\/p>\n<p>A more disturbing trend is the national increase in the discharge of firearms for the 4th of July and New Years. What goes up must come down and spent bullets can kill or maim a child, adult or pet and cause expensive property damage. Discharging firearms is always illegal and violators will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.<\/p>\n<p>Over 200 people go to the emergency room on or near the fourth each year. People die from different fireworks related accidents. The recent wet summers prevented an increase in the potential of fireworks induced fires but people may not be as fortunate in the future, said the mayor.
