Negotiations are on-going, they say, and they \u201care very close.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hazelwood City Manager Matthew Zimmerman received information from tenants at the St. Louis Outlet Mall that they had received notice from the mall owners terminating their leases effective June 17. The city had no foreknowledge that such notices were being delivered, said Zimmerman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a private matter between the owners as landlord and their tenants and the City does not have any legal authority or requirement to receive such notices,\u201d Zimmerman said in a statement \u201cThe City has actively been encouraging the owners to reinvest in the mall, including signing new tenants and maintaining the building and surrounding properties,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The mall owners have been \u201cuncommunicative\u201d with Hazelwood and the city cannot comment as to the reasons for the lease termination notices being sent, Zimmerman added.<\/p>\n<p>Hazelwood is actively working with Dan Buck and Big Sports Properties, the mall owners, and bond holders to redevelop the property into a regional youth sports complex called Powerplex. Plans call for a 138-acre complex with up to 20 ball fields that include 11 fields at BMAC, across Hwy. 370 in Bridgeton. Also in the plans are indoor volleyball courts, Beach volleyball courts, Pickleball courts, 3 wood basketball courts and a dance and cheer competition area under a 5-acre dome which could host hard court events, massive expos, competition areas and festivals. Recreations and activities such as mini putt-putt, climbing walls and zip lines, ice skating, go karts, bowling and laser tag were all listed in the plans.
