2018 Tree City USA<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/h1>\n

\"mo<\/a>Florissant Mayor Tim Lowery received a plaque on behalf of the City of Florissant for being named a 2018 Tree City USA. Presenting the plaque was Danny Moncheski, community forester from Missouri Department of Conservation.<\/p>\n

The traditional Arbor Day celebration took place on Thursday, April 25 underneath the outdoor ice rink at the James J. Eagan Center due to inclement weather.<\/p>\n

Mayor Lowery also announced that the City of Florissant was named a 2018 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of the city\u2019s commitment to effective urban forest management.<\/p>\n

Florissant achieved Tree City Recognition by meeting the program\u2019s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.<\/p>\n

Trees provide multiple benefits to a community when properly planted and maintained. They help to improve the visual appeal of a neighborhood, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants and provide wildlife habitat, among many other benefits.<\/p>\n

The Tree City USA, Tree Line and Tree Campus USA programs are sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the US Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. These programs provide direction, technical assistance, public attention and national recognition for community forestry programs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
