Begin the Year on High Notes<\/strong><\/h1>\n

A snowy evening with the now classic \u201cLove Actually\u201d in the background makes the perfect setting as I reflect on the Dining Divas and the wonderful, busy holiday season we\u2019ve had the past several weeks.<\/p>\n

It all began with dinner, drinks, and a couple holiday games at the Diva OG\u2019s house. The spirits of the season were flowing between the mystery drink that had everyone guessing and feeling good to the sugar from the dozens of cookies and recipes we shared. The Retired Divas joined us after they spent their day discovering local treasures in our great city as they do each month. This time they visited the Magic Chef Mansion, the once elegant home of the owner of Magic Chef, the largest stove company in the\u00a0 world at one time.<\/p>\n

The Long-Distance Diva came back in town to join her fellow and former Divas for this event. And to her delight, she had another passenger to take home with her to Texas. She was the lucky Rob-Your-Neighbor winner of the beloved \u201cnot-quite-life-sized\u201d ceramic white elephant that has been a part of Diva Christmas\u2019 for a few years now. Even though it would have fit right in in the \u201cEverything is Bigger\u201d state, the elephant didn\u2019t make the trip back with her. It ended up on the front porch of the Absent Diva\u2019s.<\/p>\n

We were excited for the family we adopted through Catholic Charities. The Organized Diva was confident our collection of gifts and family activities would help them have a nice Christmas. At every Divas, we pass around a bag for spare change or cash, and then use that money for a less fortunate family during the holiday. We talked about using it differently this year. Household cleaning supplies and toiletries are in high demand all throughout the year, and we\u2019re considering donating monthly instead of the end of the year.<\/p>\n

Another tradition for us is a Diva brunch for New Year\u2019s. This year the gang travelled the River Road to the Grafton Diva\u2019s picturesque condo atop a bluff overlooking the river. It was a mild, beautiful day, perfect for catching up on everyone\u2019s holidays while enjoying an amazing homecooked breakfast. Everyone agreed. Her place is like being on vacation every day. And so festive for the season!<\/p>\n

As I reflect on such a wonderful season, I\u2019m reminded of many high points.\u00a0\u00a0 One Diva got married. One reconnected with a past love. One retired. There were a few momentous birthdays. A new job. Growing families and several exciting trips including New Year\u2019s Eve in Key West.<\/p>\n

I also am reminded of some unfortunate low points. One Diva had her first surgery because of cancer and another Diva had a massive heart attack. But aside from being really good at laughing and dining together, the Dining Divas have always been an amazing group of prayer warriors. We\u2019re confident that with a positive attitude and faith, these low points will pass. And 2019 will be another exciting year filled with more highs than lows once again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
