Hazelwood City Council <\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Candidacy Filing Opens<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Persons interested in filing as candidates for election to the Hazelwood City Council for Wards 1, 3, 5, or 7 may obtain nominating petitions from City Clerk Christine Thomas, at Hazelwood City Hall, 415 Elm Grove Lane. Positions to be filled at the election on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, are for three-year terms.<\/p>\n

Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, a registered voter, a resident of the City for at least two years immediately prior to the election, and a resident of the ward for which the office is sought. Nominating petitions shall be signed by no less than 25 and no more than 50 registered voters eligible to vote for the candidate. These petitions must then be filed with the City Clerk.<\/p>\n

Filing for candidacy opens on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 8 a.m., and closes on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, at 5 p.m. For further information, contact City Clerk Christine Thomas at (314) 513-5020.<\/p>\n

Ribbon-Cutting Marks Latest <\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Christian Hospital 2020 Milestone: <\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

New Expanded Lobby Renovation<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

\"Lobby<\/a>As part of Christian Hospital 2020 \u2013 the $60 million initiative introduced in 2017 that revolves around Revitalization, Community, People and Care \u2013 a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Nov. 1 with Christian Hospital and BJC leadership, employees, volunteers, community and civic leaders, and area residents to officially open the doors of Christian Hospital\u2019s new $3.5 million lobby renovation and expansion. The new lobby includes an expansive reception area with a registration and information station; adjacent registration pods to ensure privacy; a lab draw room for convenience; and a large community room for multiple purposes.<\/p>\n

The ceremony also marked completion of the hospital\u2019s main tower $2.75 million enhancements with new upgraded windows, and new large Christian Hospital signage at the top of the main tower that also reflects changes happening at this north St. Louis County health care leader.<\/p>\n

Hazelwood Firefighters Collect and Donate Winter Coats<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Members of the Hazelwood Firefighters Community Outreach Program started their Season of Giving early this year by joining forces with other agencies in supporting the annual \u201cWarner\u2019s Warm-Up Coat Drive.\u201d They collected new and slightly used winter coats of all sizes from Nov. 1 to Nov. 14.<\/p>\n

Residents droped off their coat donations in collection containers a Hazelwood City Hall, Civic Center East, Hazelwood Community Center, Fire Station #1 and Fire Station #2. Hazelwood Firefighters plan to gather these coats and given them to social service agencies that assist needy families throughout the bi-state region.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Community Outreach Program hosted a barbecue fund-raiser at Fire Station #2 on Oct. 13 and raised a lot of money for upcoming projects such as \u201cOperation Warm,\u201d \u201cOperation Glow\u201d and the \u201cSanta Parade.\u201d Some of the funds were used by the Firefighters to purchase winter coats for students who needed them at Russell Elementary and McNair Elementary Schools. Hazelwood Firefighters visited both schools and let the students pick out and try on the coats. They also wrote the student\u2019s name inside the coats with permanent markers.<\/p>\n

Residents interested in supporting the Hazelwood Firefighters Community Outreach Program can drop off their check or cash donation at Fire Station #2, 6800 Howdershell Road, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. They also also make contributions online using the Hazelwood Firefighters\u2019 PayPal account at hazelwoodfirefighters@gmail.com.
