Hawks, Wildcats Meet Again:<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/h1>\n

East, Trinity, LHSN Are Top Seeds<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/h1>\n

For the second time in the last seven years, Hazelwood Central and Hazelwood West will have a rematch in the first round of Class Six District football and it is a District One battle of seeds four versus five Saturday, Oct. 27, 2 p.m. at Central.<\/p>\n

Last time the two met in districts was in 2012, District Two, as the Hawks won over the \u2019Cats in the first round but lost the second round to DeSmet Jesuit.<\/p>\n

The winner plays Nov. 2 at top seed and defending State Champion Christian Brothers College High or Nov. 3 at home against eighth-seeded St. Louis University High. Although Hazelwood West (6-3 overall, 4-1 Suburban XII North) has more seed points (38.33) than Hazelwood Central (37.08) the Hawks (7-2, 5-0) got the fourth seed thanks to a 15-12 win over the host Wildcats on Sept. 17.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 HAZELWOOD CENTRAL<\/strong> won their fifth consecutive Suburban XII North title (seven in a row including the last two in the Suburban North) thanks to a 20-13 home win Oct. 20 over McCluer North. The Hawks have 44 consecutive wins over current and former conference rivals.<\/p>\n

HAZELWOOD WEST<\/strong> took second place in the Suburban XII North following a 36-12 win Oct. 20- at Hazelwood East. The Wildcats scored 36 unanswered points after starting the second quarter trailing the Spartans 12-0. Junior quarterback Darius Cooper threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns while running for a pair of third quarter touchdowns.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 HAZELWOOD EAST <\/strong>(6-3, 3-2), despite the loss to West, is the top seed in Class Four, District Three and hosts a rematch Saturday, 2 p.m. against University City. The winner plays Nov. 3 against Clayton or Jennings (Nov. 2 if Hazelwood East loses).<\/p>\n

In the Aug. 25 season -opener the Spartans won 40-0 at University City, which got their first win Oct. 20 (41-14 over St. Charles<\/p>\n

High). East got the top seed over 8-1 second-seeded Mary Institute and Country Day School because the Spartans played four Class Six teams and two Class Five teams while MICDS, which hosts 0-9 McCluer Saturday, lost their only game Sept. 29 to visiting Lutheran North, 21-20.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 TRINITY CATHOLIC<\/strong> is the top seed in Class Three, District Three and the 7-2 Titans host eight-seeded Sumner Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. The winner plays Nov. 2 against fourth seeded Orchard Farm or fifth seeded McCluer South Berkeley (Nov. 3 if MS-Berkeley and 1-8 Sumner win).<\/p>\n

After losing to currently 8-0 Colquitt County (Ga.) and Southwestern Conference champion East St. Louis (Ill. (tin triple overtime) the Titans are on a seven-game win streak including nonconference wins over Clyde C. Miller Career Academy (61-6), SLUH (48-0) and Cincinnati LaSalle (33-0). Sumner, which co-ops with Northwest Academy of Law, got its only win over Carnahan High School of the Future (40-39).<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 LUTHERAN NORTH<\/strong> is 6-3, the defending champion and the top seed in Class Two, District Two and the Crusaders host 0-9 and eight-seeded Grandview, located near Hillsboro, Friday at 7 p.m. The winner plays Nov. 2 against fourth-seeded Carnahan (0-9) or fifth-seeded Duchesne (1-8) (Maybe Nov. 3 if Carnahan and Grandview meet on a lightless St. Louis Public High School field).<\/p>\n

McCLUER NORTH<\/strong>, despite losing to Hazelwood Central, is the second seed in Class Five, District Three and is off until Nov. 3 when Stars match 4-5 records against third-seeded Fort Zumwalt South. North got the two seed and home field because the Stars played two Class Six teams and Illinois Class 8A qualifier Edwardsville while Fort Zumwalt South played only played Class Six Francis Howell Central.<\/p>\n
