In conjunction with events going on to celebrate the 2009 MLB All-Star Game at Busch Stadium, Hazelwood Parks and Recreation is sponsoring a Baseball Camp in association with The Fieldhouse Training Center during the week of July 13-16. <\/p>\n
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher and 2002 Hazelwood West High School graduate Kyle McClellan will be making an appearance with other Cardinal players (based on availability) at the Hazelwood Sports Complex, located at 4622 Aubuchon Road.<\/p>\n
Registration is open to all youngsters between the ages of six and 12. The cost per player is
\n$75, which includes a specially designed t-shirt. A team rate of $65 per player for groups of
\nsix or more is available. Individuals can sign up for the Baseball Camp at the following
\nrecreation centers operated by the city of Hazelwood: Hazelwood Community Center, located
\nin White Birch Park at 1186 Teson Road; and Civic Center East, located at 8669 Dunn Road.
\nChecks should be made payable to The City of Hazelwood.<\/p>\n
The event will be directed by Matt McClellan, Hazelwood West High School baseball coach
\nwho has years of experience in playing, coaching and organizing a productive and enjoyable
\nbaseball camp.<\/p>\n
“Our goal is to provide each player with quality instruction that will assist them in making the most of their baseball ability and to learn to enjoy the game of baseball,” said Terry McClellan, owner of The Fieldhouse Training Center and Kyle\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s father.<\/p>\n
“Believe it or not, St. Louis is fast becoming a hotbed of major league baseball talent,” said
\nDoug Littlefield, Hazelwood Parks and Recreation Division Supervisor. “Kyle McClellan is
\nour hometown kid who has fulfilled his dream of pitching for the St. Louis Cardinals. Two
\nother Hazelwood West baseball players, Dave Phelps and Mike Phelps, turned pro as well.<\/p>\n
Dave is currently with the New York Yankees organization. The same coach who helped these
\nguys develop the fundamentals needed to become professional athletes will be running our
\nBaseball Camp. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not too often you get to meet and learn from St. Louis Cardinal players
