New Goodwill Store Coming to <\/strong>No. Lindbergh<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The Florissant City Council Monday night held a public hearing, passed several bills, elected and seated new council officers. Jeff Caputa is the new council president and Tim Jones is the new council vice president.<\/p>\n

The public hearing was about a request by MERS\/Missouri Goodwill Industries, doing business as Goodwill, to allow a location post sign for property at 455 N. Highway 67. This is the former Sears store near the intersection of Lindbergh and Charbonier\/Washington.<\/p>\n

Bill Behrens spoke for Goodwill. He said the proposed sign was a size approved by the city, but Goodwill would like to place it closer to the road than the city\u2019s required 40 feet. \u201cThat is the only variance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe building sets 250 feet off the road,\u201d he said. The sign would be in a new island that would mark the entrance to the property. Because there is a gas station on the corner, in front of the Goodwill building, a sign back 40 feet would be difficult to see.<\/p>\n

Caputa said that the city\u2019s Planning and Zoning Commission denied the approval for the sign. Behrens said that he did not realize he would have to present to the commission because he has staff approval, so he was not prepared.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is really a unique property in the<\/p>\n

sense that the petitioner is correct that the front of the building is blocked by the gas station,\u201d said Councilman Joe Eagan. \u201cI would be supportive of this.\u201d He added, however, that he would defer to Councilman Tim Jones, since the property is in his ward. Jones was out sick.<\/p>\n

Behrens showed a picture of the site that showed the nearby carwash was in front of the 40 foot setback.<\/p>\n

No residents spoke at the hearing.<\/p>\n

In other matters,<\/strong> the council:<\/p>\n

  • Passed a bill that authorized a special use permit for S&A BBQ, Fish & Deli for a restaurant at 1149 N. Hwy 67.<\/li>\n
  • Passed a bill that authorizes a special use permit to Bountiful Blessings North to allow for an adult day care at 13210 New Halls Ferry Road.<\/li>\n
  • Passed a bill authorizing a special use permit to One Dish Wonders to allow for a catering business at 115 Flower Valley Shopping Center.<\/li>\n
  • Passed a bill amending the 2018 budget by removing a full-time position and adding a part-time Community Development Specialist for the Housing and Development Office.<\/li>\n
  • Passed a bill amending the 2018 budget by removing a full-time duplicating operator position and adding a part-time duplicating operator position for the City Clerk\u2019s office.<\/li>\n
  • Passed a bill authorizing the appropriation of $1,300 from the General Revenue Fund for the purchase of software for the Prosecuting Attorney\u2019s office for file maintenance.<\/li>\n
  • Held a first reading on a bill authorizing the appropriation of $10,000 for the purpose of funding legal counsel for the City Council.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
