The Florissant City Council held three public hearings at the last week\u2019s council meeting on signs changes for a chain restaurant, a new name for a well-known car wash and a lot size change for St. Sophia Center. The first hearing was about a request for exterior alterations including a blade sign for the Long John Silvers and A & W at 1232 Graham Road. Jim Sprick spoke at the hearing.<\/p>\n
The restaurant would like to change the fa\u00e7ade. The blade sign is an extension of the building that sticks out a few feet on one side. Councilman Tim Jones said he would like to see a trash can outside the doors. He said the City is asking all fast food restaurants to do this.<\/p>\n
Councilman Jeff\u00a0\u00a0 Caputa said he was at the restaurant a few months ago and they ran out of food. Previously, he said, he had been there when they ran out of soda. Sprick said that the manager who was there a few months ago has been replaced. The pole sign will remain. It will be the same size, but the display will change. The council held a first reading on the bill that would approve the changes.<\/p>\n
The second hearing regarded a request to approve a subdivision of one lot into two lots at 936 Charbonier Road. This is where St. Sophia Center is located. Steve Lawny spoke about the project. He said that the center sits on a twelve acre parcel and they are dividing it into two six acre parcels.<\/p>\n
Councilman Joe Eagan asked of there would be a zoning change required. Lawny said there would not be a request for a zoning change. The council held a first reading on the bill that would approve the subdivision.<\/p>\n
The final hearing was about a request to authorize a special permit for a digital sign for the car wash at 2040 N. Highway 67. This is to change the Crown Car Wash sign at the property to and Auto Spa sign with electronic signboard. Garrett Newhouse spoke about the project. The ownership of the carwash recently changed.<\/p>\n
Councilman Joe Eagan asked what they would put on the bottom sign. Newhouse said they would list any specials they had.<\/p>\n
Councilman Tim Jones said that the carwash has been there for years, and he appreciated the updates the new owners have put in.<\/p>\n
Councilman Robert Parson said that the area of Lindbergh was often congested. He asked if there would be movement or flashing on the signs. Newhouse said they would not have videos or flashing messages. The council held a first reading on the bill that would approve the sign.<\/p>\n
In other action, the Council passed a bill that would add a two way stops at the intersection of Aqueduct and Hambletonian. They also held a first reading on a bill appropriating funds for the Community Development Block Grant for the 2017 fiscal year.<\/p>\n
