Jamestown Mall: Ready for Renewal.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The St. Louis County Port Authority has selected a company to remove hazardous waste and materials at the site of the former J.C. Penney and Macy\u2019s.<\/p>\n

St. Louis based Environmental Management Alternatives, Inc. will begin the work in August. The firm was selected through a proposal process.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a necessary step in our efforts to make this property an important contributor to North County\u2019s economy,\u201d St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger said. \u201cAny waste or hazardous materials need to be removed before demolition work can begin.\u201d<\/p>\n

The St. Louis County Port Authority, created to bring resources to communities, hasagreements with four of the five original owners of the Jamestown Mall properties.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are currently in negotiations to acquire the remaining Jamestown properties,\u201d Sheila Sweeney, CEO of the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership, said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce that happens, there will be several opportunities for community input as we move forward to create new life for the Jamestown property.\u201d<\/p>\n

The website, http:\/\/stlouisco.com\/jamestown gives the history of the work to date, shows photos of the current state of the mall, and allows residents to sign up for email updates or email in questions or concerns.<\/p>\n
