On Wednesday, June 28, Mayor Schneider attended his first meeting as a member of the 21st Century Missouri Transportation Task Force that was held at the Missouri State Capitol Building in Jefferson City. Mayor Schneider had been recently appointed to this task force by Missouri Senate Minority Leader Gina Walsh.<\/p>\n
The first meeting discussed briefly the overall importance of transportation on the growth, population, economy, travel, health and safety for Missouri residents. The mission of the task force is to evaluate the condition of the state transportation system, including roads and bridges.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe task force will evaluate current Missouri transportation funding to evaluate whether current transportation funding in Missouri is sufficient to not only maintain the transportation needs in its current state but also to ensure that it serves the transportation needs of Missouri\u2019s citizens as we move forward in the 21st century,\u201d the mayor said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Mayor Schneider served with the Navy Seabees building roads in Vietnam and holds a degree in Civil Engineering from Univ. of MO Rolla, now Missouri University of Science and Technology. He was employed as a Materials Testing Engineer by MODOT before he was appointed Florissant City Engineer by Mayor Eagan where he instituted the Florissant bridge replacement system still in place today.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am honored to be appointed by Senator Walsh to contribute to the important work of the 21st Century Missouri Transportation Task Force and look forward to working with the distinguished members of the committee,\u201d said Mayor Schneider.<\/p>\n
The Mayor is also a member of the Missouri Municipal League, whose aim has been “to develop an agency for the cooperation of Missouri cities, towns and villages and to promote the interest, welfare and closer relations among them in order to improve municipal government and administration in the state.”<\/p>\n
