The Florissant City Council held a public hearing to about a building addition for the Aldi store located at 2505 N. Hwy. 67. Aldi\u2019s represented John Sawyer said that the 4,000 square foot addition will give the store a total of 19,500 square feet. Aldi will be building a new locating dock and storage area. The old areas will be used to make a larger sales floor.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll have a minor shutdown at the end of the renovation project of approximately five weeks<\u201d Sawyer said. \u201cBut the store will remain in operation for most of the addition building.\u201d<\/p>\n
Councilman Tommy Siam, in whose ward the store is located, asked about the schedule for the addition. Sawyer said they would start as soon as they had all permits and approvals. \u201cWe usually have a three month period of total construction with roughly a five to six week shutdown period,\u201d he said. He added that if they got the permits soon, they would be finished with construction and back open Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n
When asked why Aldi was expanding, Sawyer said that they are going through a renovation at most of their stores in the country. \u201cThis is one of the first stores in this area to be renovated. You\u2019ll see a change to lighting and signs and additional space to provide product,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The interior will be similar when finished, he said, but larger. The store will continue with only one loading dock.<\/p>\n
The council held a first reading on the bill approving the project.<\/p>\n
The council also held a second reading and discussed a bill that will authorize the mayor to enter into an agreement with Meridian Waste Management for trash collection service for the city.<\/p>\n
Councilman Tim Lee spoke about the contract extension with Meridian. He said it would provide residents with the same rate they have now until 2020. In 2021, rates can go up $0.47. The plan continues to offer a 50% discount for seniors, Lee said. A new benefit will be one free tote per household.<\/p>\n
Lee added that the council introduced the bill as a whole to indicate that they were all happy with the extension. The council continued the bill until the next meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
