The Florissant Police Department will host a C.E.R.T. training course beginning Wednesday, April 8.<\/p>\n
C.E.R.T. is an acronym that stands for Community Emergency Response Team. Participants will meet one day a week for six weeks. Class times are 6:30-10 p.m. <\/p>\n
The goal is for citizens to be trained in basic response skills. C.E.R.T. members are then integrated into the emergency capability for their area.<\/p>\n
Under the guidelines of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and using the model created by the Los Angeles City Fire Department, C.E.R.T.\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s have been established in hundreds of communities. <\/p>\n
If a disastrous event overwhelms or delays the community\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s professional response, C.E.R.T. members can assist others by applying the basic response and organizational skills that they learned during training. These skills can help save and sustain lives following a disaster until help arrives. C.E.R.T. skills also apply to daily emergencies.<\/p>\n
