HFD\u2019s \u2018PUBLIC SAFETY DAY\u2019 OFFERS FUN ACITIVITES FOR KIDS: Children enjoyed playing the water extinguisher game and learning how to point water at an object using a small hose.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Hundreds of local residents came out to view the City of Hazelwood\u2019s emergency response vehicles at the Fire Department\u2019s \u201cPublic Safety Day\u201d held June 17 at Fire House #2, located next to Howdershell Park. A couple of the city\u2019s fire trucks, an ambulance and several Hazelwood Police Department vehicles were on display.<\/p>\n

The event featured many fun activities for all ages to enjoy. The landing of an Arch Rescue Helicopter near the Fire House created a lot of excitement and a large crowd of spectators. The helicopter crew members allowed people to look inside and see all the equipment they use to treat patients while in flight and where they load the stretcher from behind. Children also got to sit in the seats that the crew members use to fly the helicopter.<\/p>\n

Other popular activities for the kids included interacting with the animals from Cindy\u2019s Petting Zoo, enjoying the pony rides, and jumping around inside a Bounce House. There was also a Home Depot building station, a dunking machine, a water extinguisher game, and a radar throwing speed trailer that allowed youngsters to see how fast they can throw a baseball. The Police Department also provided K-9 demonstrations and displayed its new D.A.R.E. vehicle, which is a beautifully-decaled Ford Mustang donated by the Bommarito Automotive Group.<\/p>\n

Inside the Fire House there were booths set up for several local hospitals and for the City\u2019s Fire and Police Explorers. Representatives from Mercy Hospital, SSM Health DePaul Hospital and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children\u2019s Hospital were there to hand out literature, answer questions and to conduct blood pressure screenings.<\/p>\n

The HFD\u2019s S.T.A.R.S. Coordinator, Firefighter\/Paramedic Amanda Boyer, was sitting at the Cardinal Glennon booth sharing information about the department\u2019s new program.
