Missouri American Water officials say that an unusual taste and\/or odor in the tap water of residents and businesses in and near Florissant since the week of May 15 pose no health risks to area residents and businesses.<\/p>\n
The taste\/odor issue had mostly subsided by May 24 and residents should have noticed improvement in the taste of their tap water, according to a post on the Missouri American Water Facebook page. The taste\/odor issue was aesthetic only and the water remained safe to drink at all times, said the company.<\/p>\n
Due to the recent flooding in the St. Louis area, intake water from the flooded Missouri River has a different composition than usual, affecting its taste. The company adjusted its treatment process to ensure safety, but the taste issue remained.<\/p>\n
A post on the company\u2019s Facebook page stated, \u201cPlease be aware that there are no health risks. Our continuous chemical and biological testing will assure safe drinking water standards are met.\u201d<\/p>\n
Missouri American Water also posted on its Facebook page that \u201cThe water in Florissant is fine…We had an aesthetic taste issue, but we test the water for bacteria and other contaminants constantly and the water was never unsafe, despite the taste.\u201d<\/p>\n
The company said that \u201cOften a chemical taste is related to chlorine, which we continually feed for disinfection purposes.\u201d Missouri American Water encourages residents to view their local water quality report online for details of the composition of their water.<\/p>\n
Florissant Mayor Thomas P. Schneider said that both he and Florissant Public Works Director Lou Jearls had spoken with officials with Missouri American Water since the taste\/odor issue began and the issue was \u201ca temporary phenomenon.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
