\n The Florissant City Council approved a liquor license for ALPS, a new grocery store getting ready to open at 750 South New Florissant Road. This space, near the intersection of St. Anthony Lane and New Florissant, was formerly occupied by Save-A-Lot. <\/p>\n
Prasand Patel, who is opening the store, told the council that it is not a liquor store, but rather a grocery store that sells liquor. He compared ALPS to Aldi or Save-a-Lot. It will be between 10 and 20 % less expensive than a typical grocery store, but have more name brand items than many discount stores. Patel said he planned to open in late April. <\/p>\n
Councilwoman Karen McKay, in whose ward the store is located, said she was excited about the new store, and knew that many residents missed having a small grocery store
\nin the neighborhood. <\/p>\n
“They are investing close to one million dollars in the building,” she said, and thanked Patel for putting the store in. She also said that the store would not affect the veterinary office that is in the back of the building. <\/p>\n
ALPS is a regional chain, with stores in Kansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska. There are some stores in Missouri, including Springfield and Louisiana. <\/p>\n
In other news, the council honored three local teams who won state championships. Trinity Catholic High School’s soccer team, Hazelwood Central’s football team and Hazelwood East’s football team were all honored by the city for their wins. <\/p>\n
The mayor also announced the Mayors’ Ball, to be held March 7 at city hall. Mayors Robert Lowery of Florissant, Norm McCourt of BlackJack, and T. R. Carr of Hazelwood host the ball, which benefits Valley Industries. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
