{"id":16363,"date":"2016-10-04T09:20:25","date_gmt":"2016-10-04T15:20:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.flovalleynews.com\/?p=16363"},"modified":"2016-10-04T09:20:25","modified_gmt":"2016-10-04T15:20:25","slug":"high-school-football-recaps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flovalleynews.com\/?p=16363","title":{"rendered":"High School Football Recaps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<h1><strong>Hazelwood Central Football is 7-0, <\/strong>Trinity, McCluer South Both 6-0<\/h1>\n<h2>By Jim Wieners<\/h2>\n<p>Missouri High School Class Six Football features the 32 largest high schools in the state, on basis of enrollment, and Hazelwood Central is the only one that remains unbeaten.<\/p>\n<p>Hazelwood Central is 7-0 while eight other schools have only one loss including 2015 state runner up CBC (6-1), Kirkwood (5-1), Eureka (6-1), Ritenour (6-1), Blue Springs (6-1) Springfield-Kickapoo (6-1), Lee\u2019s Summit High (6-1) and Kansas City-Rockhurst (5-1).<\/p>\n<p>Hazelwood Central, which currently leads the Suburban XII Conference North Division (3-0), will play at home Saturday, Oct. 8, 1 p.m. against Hazelwood West (3,4, 2-1) and a win by Central will assure the Hawks of no worse than a share of the Suburban North title with an Oct. 15 game at Riverview Gardens (currently 2-5, 0-3) remaining before district playoffs begin Oct. 21-22.<\/p>\n<p>Hazelwood Central shuts out McCluer 48-0 on Sept. 24 then went away from the Suburban North Sept. 30 to win a 54-18 rout at former Suburban North Conference rival Pattonville. Senior quarterback Antonio Triplett Jr., who threw for 124 yards but no touchdowns at McCluer (3-4, 1-2), combined for 275 yards rushing and passing as well as five touchdowns, including two passes to senior wide receiver Paul Sullivan, at 3-4 Pattonville.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0 TRINITY CATHOLIC, McCLUER SOUTH-BERKELEY<\/strong> are both 6-0 and both had last weekend off. On Sept. 23 Trinity won its second straight Archdiocesan Athletic Association Small Division title (4-0) following a 48-0 home shut out of 5-2 Lutheran St. Charles County as sophomore quarterback Isaiah Williams passed for 274 yards and three touchdowns, two to sophomore wide receiver Bryce Childress, while the Titan defense accounted for seven quarterback sacks, two each by seniors Torre Boland and Jabriel Green.<\/p>\n<p>Trinity plays Saturday, 1 p.m. at 2015 Class Three State Champion John Burroughs (3-4) while McCluer South-Berkeley, 2-0 in the Suburban Central Conference, American Division, can clinch a league title with a win Friday, Oct. 7, 7 p.m. at 2-5 Affton.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0 HAZELWOOD EAST<\/strong> (5-2 overall, 2-1 Suburban XII North) routed Riverview Gardens, 54-20 on Sept. 24 then edged Rockwood-Summit 18-14 on Oct. 1 and East hosts McCluer Saturday at 1 p.m.. In the last two games freshman quarterback Mekhi Hagens combined for 584 yards passing and five touchdowns. Against Riverview, in a 34-0 second half, Hagens, besides rushing for two touchdowns, threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns, two to senior wide receiver Shadrach Martin while sophomore Maurice Chavers and junior Daveon Drayton each scored two touchdowns. Against Rockwood-Summit (3-4) Hagens\u2019 second touchdown pass was a 14-yarder to junior wide receiver Dijon Walls with 4:34 left in the fourth quarter after trailing at halftime 14-12.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HAZELWOOD WEST,<\/strong> in second-half rallies during a pair of home games, won 25-13 over McCluer North (1-6, 1-2) on Sept. 24 but lost 27-16 October 1 to Arnold-based Fox (5-2). Junior running back Canaan Brooks ran for two touchdowns against McCluer North in a 25-6 second half after trailing 7-0 at halftime and ran for two more in a 16-0 second half rally against Fox but could not overcome a 27-0 halftime deficit. Senior linebacker Krishon Merriweather has 119 tackles this season including 14 against McCluer North and 19 against Fox.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0 McCLUER NORTH<\/strong> hosts Riverview Gardens Saturday at 1 p.m. after the Stars lost at Hazelwood West Sept. 24 and at Eureka, 44-13 on Sept. 30. Senior Jaylen Jefferson combined for 262 yards rushing and passing as well as two touchdowns at Hazelwood West then rushed for 183 yards and two touchdowns at Eureka.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0 RIVERVIEW GARDENS<\/strong> only has wins over 3-4 Normandy Collaborative (26-14) on Sept. 3 and 0-7 Seckman (52-13) on Sept. 30 in Imperial.
