F.I.T. Kids Camp Revises<\/h1>\n

Site Plan, Gets Council OK<\/h1>\n

The Florissant City Council held one public hearing and considered several bills at the council meeting last week. The council began the meeting with a moment of silence for the victims of the shooting in Orlando.<\/p>\n

In the public hearing, the council heard from Tony Cancila about a request to subdivide property at 955 N. Hwy. 67. Cancila said he would like to have the property subdivided so that he could sell a portion to Popeye\u2019s\u2019 Restaurant. The site is next to Culver\u2019s Restaurant. The council held a first reading on a bill that would approve the subdivision.<\/p>\n

The council also approved a new children\u2019s camp at 2370 N. Hwy. 67. Councilman Tommy Siam introduced a substitute bill in place of the previous bill that would authorize a special use permit to F.I.T. Kids Camp.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the public hearing last time, a lot of concerns came up about the children\u2019s safety,\u201d Siam said. The substitute bill addressed those concerns, he said. At the previous meeting, several members of the council expressed concerns about the outdoor play area being on a parking lot and too close to the drop-off and pick-up area. Steven Ray, with F.I.T. Ministries, the organization that would run the camp, spoke to the council.<\/p>\n

City Attorney John Hessel said that the petitioner submitted a new site plan since the bill was read the first time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just received these tonight when we walked in,\u201d Councilman Tim Jones said. He said he would not like to approve them without studying them further.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m comfortable with accepting the revised site plan because I\u2019m comfortable with the substitute bill getting the additional things I would be concerned about,\u201d Lee said. He said he went by the business and compared the original and revised site plans. The bill passed.<\/p>\n
