Nine Hazelwood School District (HSD) schools were among 216 Missouri public schools and public charter schools recognized by state education officials for their successful adoption and implementation of Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS), a comprehensive approach for improving student behavior and academic performance.<\/p>\n
SW-PBS methods are research-based, proven to significantly reduce problem behaviors in schools and supported by a three-tiered model. Each tier corresponds to three award levels\u2014gold, silver and bronze.<\/p>\n
Jana Elementary, Keeven Elementary, Brown Elementary and Hazelwood Early Childhood Center earned gold-level awards.<\/p>\n
Garrett Elementary earned a silver-level award.<\/p>\n
McCurdy Elementary, McNair Elementary and Hazelwood East Middle earned bronze-level awards.<\/p>\n
Recently, Keeven Elementary held an awards ceremony to recognize the students who earned the PBIS award.<\/p>\n
\u201cNinety four of our students earned the PBIS award this school year,\u201d said Shanise Terrell, principal at Keeven Elementary. \u201cStudents who earned the award will have the opportunity to attend a carnival or a movie of their choice.<\/p>\n
SW-PBS is designed to create safer and more effective schools by structuring the learning environment to support the academic and social success of all students. The process supports the adoption and long-term implementation of efficient and effective discipline throughout the school environment.<\/p>\n
