On Thursday, Nov. 5, three Florissant Police Department officers were honored at the 46th annual Crusade Against Crime Medal of Valor Awards Ceremony. All received recognition for their distinguished act of bravery above and beyond the normal demands of a police officer.<\/p>\n
Officers Amel Topcagic, Eric Schlueter,<\/strong> and Steve Beekman<\/strong> answered a call for a house fire, where a man had barricaded himself inside with the intention of committing suicide. After the fire department gained access and forced the bedroom door open, a gunshot was heard. Unsure of the man\u2019s intent, but knowing that they had to act quickly to save him, Officers Topcagic, Schlueter, and Beekman located the man through the smoke and transported him from the house.
