The premiere of the video of \u201cFlorissant\u2019s Historic Treasures\u201d was held Oct. 27 and 28 at the James J. Eagan Civic Center Theater. The five-part documentary series produced by the Florissant television station FCTV was edited to produce the hour-long feature video seen by over 400 citizens, who gave it a standing ovation.<\/p>\n
The film highlights historic events, buildings and places that shaped the development of Florissant. Mayor Thomas P. Schneider said, \u201cThe Florissant Landmark Historic District Commission in cooperation with our Media Coordinator Kerry Luster, Building Commissioner Phil Lum and Dianne Lehmann from the Public Works Department, did a great job in creating the series.\u201d<\/p>\n
The film took over a year to complete, drawing from the documentary, which was divided into presentations focusing on specific themes. The topics were \u2018Places of Worship,\u2019 \u2018Historic Buildings to Businesses,\u2019 \u2018Saved by Preservation,\u2019 \u2018Preservation by Relocation\u2019 and \u2018Residential Properties.\u2019 The preservation\/education program was made possible in part by a grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, State Historic Preservation Office and the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior, the Landmark Historic District Commission and many committed individuals.<\/p>\n
Both the hour-long compilation and the complete series DVDs are available for purchase, with proceeds helping to fund Historic Florissant\u2019s ongoing activities.
