Do you ever just want a good burger? If your household is anything like my household, you feel that way about every other day. When the Dining Divas decided to check out a burger joint, \u201cjoint\u201d was definitely not what we found, especially in Clayton.<\/p>\n
The Dining Divas tried out 5 Star Burger on Maryland Avenue. You may be concerned with the price tag on anything \u201cfive star,\u201d but don\u2019t let the name concern you. This popular place had a waiting line shortly after 6 p.m. So the price tag definitely doesn\u2019t scare people away. Fortunately, even though they don\u2019t take reservations, we were able to get seated without waiting and even with our large party.<\/p>\n
Let me clarify. These are gourmet burgers. So you won\u2019t be able to get a meal deal with fries and a drink for $7. The average burger is in the $9 range. That\u2019s not cheap if you\u2019re looking for a bargain, but this Angus beef is fresh and all-natural from grass-fed steers. No hormones added! That makes it worth the couple extra bucks.<\/p>\n
If you\u2019re slightly unadventurous, and prefer an average burger, the original 5 Star Burger is juicy and flavorful and served on brioche. The Single Diva went a little more adventurous and ordered off the menu and got a Bacon Cheddar Burger. She thought it was basic. Good, but basic. A Turkey Burger isn\u2019t very adventurous either, and 5 Star\u2019s was just like most others. Add in avocado, delicious!<\/p>\n
On the more gourmet side, the Breakfast of Champions Burger was the favorite at the table. Served with hollandaise sauce, cheese, and roasted tomato bacon jam, along with a sunny side up egg, this burger confirms that bacon and eggs are boring. Bacon, eggs, and a burger\u2026now that\u2019s interesting.<\/p>\n
There really is something magical about the Magic Mushroom Burger made with saut\u00e9ed mushrooms, onions, and Swiss cheese. The Picky Diva loved it. And the gourmet barbecue burger known as The Gateway does not disappoint.<\/p>\n
The group was surprised to love the cheese curds. At first we were hesitant to order them. We debated how we thought the name \u201ccurd\u201d should be changed. It just doesn\u2019t sound right. Maybe if we lived further north, we\u2019d understand, and it wouldn\u2019t bother us, but someone in the cheese marketing department needs to come up with an appropriate alternate. 5 Star\u2019s cheese curds were crispy and not greasy and that made up for the name. We also shared the onion rings and french fries.<\/p>\n
The restaurant got a couple extra stars from the All-Natural Diva for the wonderful selection of fountain sodas made with organic, real sugar. But fear not, if real drinks served with alcohol is where you\u2019d give out more stars, they have a 5 Star bar and happy hour every day.<\/p>\n
For those interested in dessert but not interested in overdoing it, 5 Star has a sweet option. For just one dollar, you can enjoy an ice cream shooter. It\u2019s a mini-ice cream cone, and it was great. The Sweet Diva ordered two!<\/p>\n
Because it was crowded, it was hard to participate in many conversations. And our waiter seemed to be very busy. It\u2019s good to see another thriving restaurant in Clayton.<\/p>\n
5 Star Burger earned five stars from half of the Divas and two to three stars from the other half.\u00a0\u00a0 Regardless, it was an enjoyable summer evening, and we\u2019d all agree, that deserves a 10\u2026or two thumbs up…or 5 stars.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
