As part of PNC Arts Alive New Dance Horizons IV, Dance St. Louis is seeking a diverse group of dancers with a passion for African-American history and culture. They are issuing an open audition\/casting call for Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Grand Center Arts Academy, 711 North Grand Boulevard.<\/p>\n
The cast will perform a work inspired by Maya Angelou and work with world-class choreographer and 2015 Doris Duke Impact Award winner Dianne McIntyre. They will be joined on stage by former Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater principal dancers Antonio Douthit-Boyd, Kirven Douthit-Boyd and Alicia Graf Mack.<\/p>\n
Dance St. Louis is looking for dancers age 18+ who have a strong dance technique, a prepared solo (2 minutes or less) and a willingness to improvise and be daring. Dancers with additional talents such as singing, acting or playing an instrument are especially welcome.<\/p>\n
If selected to the next level of auditions, dancers should be prepared to return each day, Thursday, Sept. 10 through Sunday, Sept. 13, for a creative dance workshop from 4 to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. Those accepted will receive a $1,200 stipend.<\/p>\n
Rehearsals will take place Nov. 5-16 and additional dates to be determined, on evenings and on weekends. The world premiere piece will be performed on the main stage of the Touhill Performing Arts Center on Feb. 26-27, 2016.<\/p>\n
