Thirty of the area\u2019s elite high school\u00a0baseball players recently hit the field at Busch Stadium to compete in the Delta Dental High School All-Star Baseball Game. The \u201cAll-Star Green Team,\u201d coached by former St. Louis Cardinals alum, Kerry Robinson, came back from a 5-1 deficit to win the game into extra innings. The \u201cAll-Star Blue Team,\u201d coached by fellow Cardinals alum, Scott Cooper, won in the bottom of the 10th inning with a walk-off single.\u00a0 The final score was 6 -5. The game represented the fifth consecutive win by the \u201cAll-Star Blue Team.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mike Puckett of Hazelwood West High School, was named the MVP of the game. He pitched two no-hit innings and reached base twice with a hit and walk. The game was preceded by a Homerun Derby competition, in which Puckett captured the winning title. Colton Anderson from Seckman High School was the runner-up.<\/p>\n
Other North County players who appeared in the game were : Mike Jacobson of Pattonville, Paul Kain of Riverview Gardens, Steve Hale of McCluer South, Jermori Willis of McCluer and Eric Jones of Hazelwood East<\/p>\n
The prep all-stars were all 2015 graduated seniors from public schools throughout the St. Louis area. Each was selected for the game by his school\u2019s coaching staff back in May, and then \u201cdrafted\u201d to either the \u201cAll-Star Blue Team\u201d or \u201cAll-Star Green Team\u201d by head coaches Cooper and Robinson. Both Cooper and Robinson are St. Louis natives. Cooper played high school baseball for the Pattonville Pirates and Robinson played for Hazelwood East Spartans.<\/p>\n
This is Delta Dental of Missouri\u2019s 5th\u00a0consecutive all-star game, and it was once again held in conjunction with the organization\u2019s Tobacco-Free Nation Project. Each all-star player signed a pledge declaring they do not smoke or chew tobacco products and are willing to advocate for healthy lifestyle choices on and off the field.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis event demonstrates our commitment to the youth in our community,\u201d commented David Haynes, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Missouri. \u201cOur mission is to improve oral and overall health, and tobacco use is a major driver of poor health.These all-star athletes are fantastic role models, who are helping us do just that.\u201d<\/p>\n
