With six wins and no losses for the first time in Hazelwood West Football history, the Wildcats play their final tune up before district play Friday night at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n
Hazelwood West (4-0 Suburban North Conference) will play their third high school nicknamed “Spartans” this season. This Friday it will be the DeSmet Jesuit Spartans and the game will be played at another Jesuit-Catholic high school, St. Louis University High. Currently DeSmet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s field is being renovated but is late in finishing due to above normal spring rains.<\/p>\n
Hazelwood West fans that are going to the game at SLUH need to take Interstate 170 from Interstate 70 to Interstate 64 (U.S. Highway 40) to Kingshighway, since the Hampton-Forest Park exits are closed. Turn right on Kingshighway, right at Oakland Avenue and left into the St. Louis Science Center Parking lot.<\/p>\n
Hazelwood West head coach Keith Herring said he has seen DeSmet “a few times. They got a lot of athletes on the field. We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be okay.” DeSmet is 4-2 with losses to Hazelwood East and., last Friday, to Chaminade.<\/p>\n
Last Friday at Francis Howell Central\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Don Muench Memorial Stadium, in Cottleville, West routed the winless (0-6) Spartans, 55-6. West is 2-0 against teams nicknamed “Spartans,” including a 28-14 home victory Sept. 20 against Hazelwood East. Devon Brun ran for two Wildcat touchdowns and had a 27-yard touchdown pass to Dillon Holliam, who ran for 173 yards and two more \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcCat touchdowns.<\/p>\n
SUBURBAN NORTH CONFERENCE GAMES-Hazelwood East (2-2 SNC, 4-2) visits Ritenour Friday, 7 p.m. while Hazelwood Central hosts Pattonville (1-3 SNC, 3-3) Saturday, 1 p.m. NON CONFERENCE VERSUS SUBURBAN NORTH-McCluer North (1-3, 2-4) is scheduled to host Beaumont (1-4) Saturday, 1 p.m. while on Friday Riverview Gardens hosts Columbia-Rock Bridge at 6 p.m. and McCluer (3-2, 4-2) travels to Farmington (5-1) for a 7 p.m. game.<\/p>\n
Last week Hazelwood Central (5-1) won at McCluer\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s homecoming game, 22-21 on a fourth-quarter 54-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion run by Maurice Scott. “Our message (to a young Hazelwood Central team) is continue to grow each day,” said Hawk head coach Richard Nixon.<\/p>\n
Last Saturday Ritenour (3-3, 3-3) spoiled McCluer North\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s homecoming game, 28-26, while Riverview Gardens (1-3, 3-3) won 34-28 at Hazelwood East, thanks to three touchdown passes by Joe Williams, who also ran for another Ram touchdown. <\/p>\n
TRINITY CATHOLIC hosts Washington-St. Francis Borgia Friday, 7 p.m. Trinity is 2-4, all in the Archdiocesan Athletic Association, and the Titans wrapped up AAA play last Friday with a 38-24 loss at Bishop DuBourg.
