When residents of Hazelwood were affected by the recent flooding, the McNair Elementary School community stepped up to the challenge of helping their neighbors. The school in the Hazelwood School District wanted to give back to many North County families displaced by flooding from Hurricane Ike. <\/p>\n

McNair devised a fundraising program, “Ray of Hope,” to assist the community.<\/p>\n

Over the last few weeks, the school has sold blue and green glow bracelets to represent the light the students can give to those in need. Last Friday, staff distributed the bracelets to the students, who wore them and set them to glow in unison. <\/p>\n

Fifth-graders in Stephanie Saulet’s class proudly wore their bracelets and were happy to display them in the afternoon when all of the students activated their glow bracelets at the same time.<\/p>\n

“The school raised $880.00 in eight days,” said McNair principal Brenda Rone. She said that all the funds will be donated to the Community Response Team and earmarked for area flood relief.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
