The battle between the last two Class Four Girls Track & Field State Champions aiming to be the first to win in Class Five, in the first year as a Five-Class sport, has begun April 11 in Wentzville at Timberland High School.<\/p>\n
Hazelwood Central, 2013 Class Four Girls Track & Field Champions, won the Timberland Invite, originally not on the schedule, by scoring 125 points. McCluer North, 2014 and defending state champions, finished a distant second with 87, about 28 behind Central and five ahead of third-place Cahokia. Among the other Girls teams at Timberland McCluer was eighth (34) and Hazelwood West was ninth (29).<\/p>\n
This was the first of a number of multi-team Track & Field meets for both Hazelwood Central and McCluer North which will end with the Class Five State Championsips May 29-30 at Dwight T. Reed Stadium, Lincoln University, Jefferson City. They will begin a string of six meets in six weeks starting next at Ladue-Horton Watkins High May 25 for the Brusca\/Strobach Ladue Invite, followed April 30-May 1 at Eureka High for the Kimball\/Wintermeyer Invite, May 9 at Kirkwood High for the Suburban XII Girls Championships, May 16 in Class Five, District<\/p>\n
HAZELWOOD CENTRAL<\/strong> won three events in the Wolfpack Invite including the 4×200-Meter Relay, which was ran in 1:45.55. Hazelwood Central had a one-two finish in the 100-Meter dash as Ariana Phillips won the meet running in 12.4 seconds while Marcya Spivey was second in 12.48 seconds. Hazelwood Central also had a one-two finish in Javelin, a sport that is not competed in the State Championships but is competed in the Collegiate level, as Taylor Ramsey won the event with a throw of 75 feet, seven inches while Krsitian Marble was second with a 68’2″ throw.<\/p>\n Hazelwood Central was second in the 4×100-Meter Relay (49.65 seconds) Phillips was third in the 200-Meter Dash (25.98 seconds), Ramsey finished third in the Discus (110 feet), Jhaere Mitchell finished second in the Long Jump (17’1.5″) and third in the 100-Meter Hurdles (15.6 seconds), Destney Nash finished second in the 400-Meter Dash (1:01.2) and Raven Williams was third in the Triple Jump (33’6.75″).<\/p>\n McCLUER NORTH<\/strong> won three events including the 4×100-Meter Relay (48.98 seconds) and had a one-two finish from Jasmine Barge and Demetria Anderson in the 100-Meter High Hurdles and the 300-Meter Low Hurldles. Barge won the 100-Meter High Hurdles running the event in 14.06 seconds and ran the winning 300-Meter Hurdles in 43.06 seconds. In finishing second in these two Hurdles events Anderson ran the 100 Highs in 14.97 seconds and ran the 300 Lows in 47.08 seconds.<\/p>\n McCluer North took second in the 4×800-Meter Relay (10.30.56) and the 4×400-Meter Relay (4:13.15) and Barge took second in the 200-Meter Dash (25.47 seconds).<\/p>\n McCLUER<\/strong> had a one-two finish in the Triple Jump as Kenyah Smith won with a 36’10.25″ effort while Micah Jenkins was second (33’9.5). HAZELWOOD WEST had a top-three finisher as Rachel Hutchcraft ran the 3,200 Meters to a third-place finish in 12:36.32.<\/p>\n BOYS WOLFPACK INVITE<\/strong> — While host Timberland scored 119 points to win their own meet, McCluer finished second with 114, McCluer North was a distant third with 76, McCluer South-Berkeley was fifth (52), Riverview Gardens was 13th (10) and Hazelwood West was 14th (five).<\/p>\n McCluer had two winners as Marcus Thomas won the High Jump with a leap of 6’4″ and Kevin Spraggins ran the 200-Meter Dash to a winning time of 22.42 seconds. McCluer was second in the 4×400-Meter Relay (3:29.24) and third in the 4×200-Meter Relay (1:32.83).
